melee wise your stats are perfect, but if you want maging, you need to take int on par of wis and you have to raise more even agility for getting better to evade.. leave a little behind strength and dexterity so you will still be able to do lots of phys dmg

I'm Grindfesting right now to raise my staff and cloth proficiencies. Blech, it's boring, but it's doing it. Another reason I don't like to grind is because the page starts blipping and blinking with those long rows of monsters. EDIT: I killed my first Legendary as a mage. Ryouko Asakura in the RoB. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) It was on the normal setting, which is embarrassing, but it's a start. I'm doing pretty well as a mage in my random battles on Battletoads. The Wrath of Thor spell is awesome. This post has been edited by Tenseigamoon: Jan 5 2011, 21:43

Are you using Google Chrome? it loads the pages much faster then Foxfire and as a mage you want that to be as fast as it can. Also if you are using HV stats, if you have it doing too many things it will slow down page loads. Showing the monsters resistance seems to slow mine down a lot.

No, I don't use either of those.
So when am I going to be able to easily kill off the Legendaries with a staff like everyone else? I tried to do EoD on normal as a mage and it was completely useless. What's the secret trick to killing them? I use all that holy/dark/soul crap and it doesn't do much. Is it solely all about raising my proficiencies?

I think it's the soul fire -> soul burst detonation that does stupid high damage.
But yeah also proficiencies and equipment are very important.

Is it possible to have a good melee/mage hybrid build?
I've always been a melee, but having read up some recent threads about mages one or two-shotting mobs, I'm thinking that I may have consider mage. If only to clear away most of mobs as quickly as possible, because once I get further into any stage like IW or grindfest, all those damage I get from multiple monsters start stacking up fast.
So at least, I'd prefer being able to clear out a decent number of mobs so I can have more manageable time meleeing. So while I'm still meleeing for xp and items, I've been using montage to level up my magic profs on the side for time being.

I'm essentially a spellsword when I melee. I can cast a Thunderstorm and kill or near-kill a wave of Normals and one more swipe from my katana can finish two or three off at time, more if I'm using Niten. Then again, I have the stats and proficiencies and equipment to do it, but I'm also at a disadvantage when it comes to being an actual mage.

I'm interested in how to achive that, cmal. I'm still relatively low (just turned level 40 yesterday), so if I want to be a mage/melee hybrid, I should start planning now so I can be set sooner rather than later.

It'll be a long time before you can do that and requires a lot of effort. You need to be able to put points into both melee and mage stats, have enough AP to put into attack spells, get essentially every aura, decent equipment, high proficiencies, and having the Hath auras doesn't hurt either.

bah these seems the common way at the current state of game
melee only till level 100, build up prof for dualwielding, 2H (good for niten ichiryu), deprecating, supportive, curative
after defeating gods, use the money to buy decent mage gear, leveling AP and buying more artifacts for other AP then reset spells and allocate points on electric and soul spells, minimizing supportive and deprecating spells
nerd like crazy to mantain decent level of proficiences and farm anything from arena, grindfest and itemworld
other advices?

Now that I'm getting the hang of it, I can definitely get through my arenas much faster being a mage and play at higher difficulty settings, it just costs more mana. I'm still struggling with killing the Legendaries but I suppose that'll start happening somewhere down the road.
And last night, I actually did some IW on Battletoads of my own free will *gasp*and it was so easy. So yeah, I guess if you have tons of free time, you can level to the sky Grinding and Item Worlding the system to death. ROFL. Now that I've discovered the wonders of using a staff, I wonder if it'll get fucked up in the next update?

We DO know that he's gonna mess with equipment to make them more "unique". Whatever that means, we're all probably going to cry.
Also coming: probably inventory counter, definitely hath transfers of some sort, maybe more equip sets, maybe a second QC, something related to the shrine/trophies.

This release just made any monsters at whatever difficulty a little pussy, of course we're going to cry in the next release. The more better. Yes. Yes. Increase the stats of the staff, and the chance of CM. This post has been edited by cmdct: Jan 10 2011, 20:20
