I think others might have mentioned this already but H@Home doesn't utilize the full potential of my bandwidth despite setting it at max.

Minor question I had while I was reading the source: is there any particular reason you use java.io for reading image files and writing to a socket instead of java.nio (HTTPResponseProcessorFile.java/HTTPSession.java)? There's probably a reasonable performance gain to be had by using it (Particularly FileChannel.transferTo ). I could probably offer a patch if you're interested, but the changes would be pretty superficial.

Because java.io is easier to use, and because H@H will hit raw disk limits before anything else.

It won't due to any number of factors. I'm running a client on 100Mbit and it barely pushes 40Mbit, while I have 2 clients on a gigabit (yes you read that right, gigabit INTERNET connection) and it barely does 6-800Mbit.

Tenboro has a few of his own 100mbit clients that shoulder a good chunk of the H@H load and between him and I, we serv up a few million files a day so other clients don't often get to max-out their connections.

Having a large cache size helps, having a faster internet connection helps but like bit torrent, most of it is random.

I'm compiling a list of H@H HowTo's and Help Guides I hope to put online at some point - that addresses a few of these frequently asked questions but I hope my answer helps.

How exactly can I set a larger heap via the command line?

You'll only need to worry about larger heap sizes/etc if you are serving files on a REALLY fast connection.

By fast, I mean 100Mbit to the internet.

Otherwise you don't need to worry about it. Just launch the GUI version and let it run.

On the Java part - what's it giving you for errors? Is it failing to load, is it crashing...when you start the HentaiAtHomeGUI what does it do? Should load the window version of H@H, start up, then give you a log of events below the pretty graph. Let's find out where the hang-up is and then we can figure out what to try next (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
