Well if you sell it just after someone sold a huge number of things (cloth per example), the probability of bazzar eating it will be higher.

Which would be the real method of getting rid of equipment without others getting it, if you cared to do that. For example, I got a few superior katalox staffs from the Shrine, and they disappeared about a minute after I sold them along with the other hundreds of staffs I spammed at the bazaar. They were well above average stat-wise, but not what I would call top tier.

It's not that I wanted to prevent others from getting them, but rather that I thought it wasn't worth my time to sell them manually. Them disappearing almost instantly is just a byproduct of mass selling; flood control.
