you may see some hand-held vacuum cleaner awards for some regulars here. Toplisters get them, but also people that got noticed for helping out with things that don't give toplist points. Like helping with scripts, helping maintaining the wiki, writing guides, hosting events etc. If you got a reward: congrats and thanks for all you've contributed in 2022.
Best wishes for 2023 to all.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Jan 1 2023, 18:53) Additionally, the following people were boosted one or more ranks due to MVP Nominations. This mechanism was first introduced in 2019, where select staffers have been able to nominate people who contribute in ways outside of what can be measured by the toplists. ...
... +1: sssss2 (211883) ...
Congratulations, and thanks to everyone who have contributed in some way for their hard work in the last year.
Hmmmm, thanks for one vote, but I exprected more than that, so I'm a bit disappointed. (Even though higher tier award bonuses don't have much practical benefit to me) I've put a lot of time and effort into scripts, but it wasn't enough for others. The latest version I'm working on has changed a lot, but I don't know how much more I have to work to satisfy others, so I think it's better to stop here.

Sorry to hear that. You know that a lot of us here are huge fans of your script. Me, I'm not just a fan, I love your script. I would be very sad to see you stop. Please note that the number votes per mod is very limited, and we have just a few mods that actually know anything about HV. So it's really special to get an award at all for HV stuff.

I don't get any say in the MVP nominations, but I also want to echo this: Your work is great, and HV would be much worse without it.

in all transparency: we get 2 sets of points. One smaller set only for mod-team members, and 1 larger set for regular members. So yes I did give a point to Nezu, but that wasn't a point I could have given to ssssss2

It's a good system, just like the government. So you don't have to deprive yourself, right? What would moderators do without awards...

The alternative was not allowing people to nominate other "mods", and considering that the people who are "mods" are also among the ones most likely to be doing stuff that isn't covered by toplists, that would kind of defeat the point. Not that the system couldn't possibly be improved, and it was heavily tweaked at least once since first inception, but those things all take time and effort, which might be better spent elsewhere.

Yum this year's cookie looks tasty. It is the best looking one to eat since the chocolate dingdong that came after the orange turd. Which in retrospect, years later, has become a decent cookie because it is colorful and only two cookies have color.
The silver whistle is the best looking one since it is like in the show. If you get too much points you would get the stupid gold whistle, and if you get not enough you'll either have the doodoo color whistle, or no whistle then I guess it doesn't matter especially for people who don't like animes that are filled with poop and other bodily fluids.
I'm not familiar with the toplist system in the first place, but as this game goes on, some people are going to get too many awards and wealth inequality will become a bigger issue. Wealth and growth inequality (for new players) is an issue for online RPGs in general, in my opinion. Once there is too much wealth inequality from decades past it can become a barrier disincentivizing any new players to join. Also forum screen space will bloat up with awards even without saying anything.
Also depending on the picture of the award, it could make some quit playing entirely. Like what if next year there was a swimsuit picture. Since I didn't know that beforehand, I didn't try to get it, then it's like limited edition DLC and I can't ever get the swimsuit, so I'll never play (which is why no one can ever convince me to start Phantasy Star Online 2 unless I can find someone to give me the swimsuits).
Or I might get the wrong color of swimsuit, like poop color. Wait I forgot that the colors can be different, so it could be a red/white/blue swimsuit and stuff. Or pink swimsuit like that cookie. Maybe we should be able to buy or trade awards in case you want different picture, or want to dump off the nasty meteoric blob.

Which might sound like a lot, but many people get more from running a single H@H node, so I don't think the awards are the main source of wealth inequality in this realm. As for the forum display, yeah, the sidebar definitely doesn't look like that in the timelines where I ever got around to making a new forum.

On this subject I have a suggestion. The award should be made in steps or layers. Award 1: Moderators I think, by the work done voluntarily by moderators, they should all be rewarded equally. Award: gold toplist bonus, +3 mod power, 200 Hath and one Tenbora's Box. Award 2: Top List The mechanism continues as it is today, but excluding those who are moderators (so that they do not accumulate awards). The awards also remain the same. Award 3: Yuletide Lottery The mechanism continues as it is today, but excluding those who are moderators and those who have gained a top list bonus (to not accumulate prizes). The awards also remain the same. Award 4: MVP Nominations For this step, the moderators and those who appeared in the top list should be excluded. As the list of nominations would depend on the result of the top lists, its disclosure would have to be done later (another day). Award suggestion: -> 10 people (+3 mod power and one Tenbora's Box) -> 15 people (+2 mod power and one Tenbora's Box) -> 20 people (+1 mod power and one Tenbora's Box) Each moderator makes its own list, and the most voted names will be nominated. In case of a tie, moderators should make a new vote to decide the position of the nominated. This post has been edited by Basara Nekki: Jan 1 2023, 23:31

I mean the problem is that most mods don't even know HV that well (if at all), so you will still end up having most people getting nominated for gallery reasons, not HV.

What if the award was divided (forum, galleries, hentai verse)? The moderators of each section would discuss among themselves the lists of their respective sections. Each section would indicate 3 (1st place), 5 (2nd place) and 7 (3rd place), and the final list would have (9 + 15 + 21) nominations.

Most of the year, HV pays off better than galleries maintenance. The toplist awards are basically all people working on the galleries get, apart from GP for uploads.
Ordinarily you would just crowdfund scripts from the player base. sssss2 is in an extremely unusual situation of already having everything else, right down to a stack of extra peerless vouchers, to the point where only a site award would stand out.
The typical nobody-is-indispensible Human Resources approach would be to hire somebody who needs the money more to write the scripts, and let 5s2 learn to apply their OCD to the galleries. LeArN to not code, in other words. 88 people got gold awards this year, so if that's the one thing you need to complete your collection, it's hardly impossible.
Or alternatively players could offer real money, since nobody ever has enough of that. Patreon, or cryptocurrency.
Another option: Update the cost of adopt-a-server slots, to the point where they're competitive with other hosting. Players donate credits -> script author trades them for crypto donations and buys slots -> script author climbs the H@H toplist.

Is that possible to change one vote from me to sssss2? I don't think I did that much contributions, a bronze reward is enough for me, but I think sssss2 deserve a gold one. Instead I may wish to win a Yuletide Lottery cause then I can have a Tenbora's Box as collection, maybe Tenbora can gift me one? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
