QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jun 10 2020, 00:05) Does this now mean basara is fucking rich in RL? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) No (unfortunately (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) ). This is the average broadband here in São Paulo (it's pretty common around here). (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Here there are plans from 10 Mbps to 500 Mbps. From what I researched, the values vary approximately between 14 and 77 euros. But it is true that most of the country has a bad internet (or does not, as in smaller cities that are very far from large centers; in these places only via satellite). That is why the test considers me faster than 99% of the country. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

I pay $74 for 24/1 mbit DSL. God Bless the rural USA. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I could double/triple the speed by getting cable internet, but the price would be about the same & the cable company in my area is a shithouse. I could also get fixed wireless or satellite internet, but those are absolute last resort crap options.

My parents are still paying 36€/month for 3.6Mbps/0.4Mbps. Yeah, bits per second, not bytes.

One of the few benefits of living in Ukraine is internet cost usually 100 Mbit/s $6, 1 Gbit/s $10, some small cities even twice cheaper and it's quite stable (couple of hours of downtime after 0200 for the last 5 years) (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Thanks for the answer, I thought 50GB was enough. Guess my 4TB HDD now has something to do.

But is it in гривна ? I heard there has been a terrible inflation after the start of conflicts.

Yep, 150/250 гривень, in гривня and inflation since than is x3 so 100 Mbit/s used to be $18, but a bit earlier it was $12. QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jun 11 2020, 00:55) Wait, their currency is called griwna/grivna? Iirc, when I was in Kyiv the year before the FIFA international soccer championship was held there, 5 гривень where 1 euro (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) The metro was around 2 гривень on average, and you could get a refreshing glass of Kvas from street-side tanker trucks for half гривня, iirc. I feel nostalgic and a bit sad (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jun 11 2020, 01:59) Hryvnia? But shouldnt that be Хривня? Uncle, he gave the Standard Russian and Standard Ukrain forms; they are almost but not exactly the same. Also transliteration from cyrillic is not always consistent. And these are not foreign names, besides. Disambiguation : by "these", I mean those he used, not your examples ! This post has been edited by mundomuñeca: Jun 11 2020, 03:57

And because i dont know anything about that i used both possible versions with v and w. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) QUOTE(mundomuñeca @ Jun 11 2020, 03:40) And these are not foreign names, besides.
For russians they are. Which is the reason why they are written and afaik spoken with a G instead of an H. Well okay ch aka Х. They dont really have an H. I mean they have н but it is actually an N. But yeah, sure, please keep explaining the cyrillic alphabet to me because i dont know anything about it. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

Hm? I thought you write it without h. I mean i know Алло, even when i never used it so far, is there also a ХАлло? My russian is worse as a thought. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif) This post has been edited by Uncle Stu: Jun 11 2020, 04:51

Алло is for answering a phone call, mean 'yes, i'm listening' there is no ХАлло, hello pronounce as ХЭЛОУ, hi as ХАЙ, and etc G = Г, h often pronounced as Г in proper names, like Harry = Гарри

I know, that is the reason why i never used it. QUOTE(Ikki Pop @ Jun 11 2020, 05:35) there is no ХАлло,
Well at least something. QUOTE(Ikki Pop @ Jun 11 2020, 05:35) G = Г, h often pronounced as Г in proper names, like Harry = Гарри
Yeah, and it used mostly by not russian words/names. Like Ганновер, Гамбург or галстук. Btw, now that i think about it, wouldnt that make Harry and Garry literally the same in russian? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

yes, but its relevant for oldfags in both ways e.g. Harry Harrison known as Гарри Гаррисон, but Lewis Hamilton not Гамилтон, its Хэмилтон same shit with W / В / У Dr Watson is Др Ватсон, Will Smith is Уилл Смит

You're confusing something, it was 8 гривня per USD since global financial crisis 2008 QUOTE(mundomuñeca @ Jun 11 2020, 04:40) Uncle, he gave the Standard Russian and Standard Ukrain forms; they are almost but not exactly the same.
It's "proper" Ukrainian form + how it should be pronounced in Ukrainian, I barely use Russian nowadays. QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jun 11 2020, 03:59) Hryvnia? But shouldnt that be Хривня? Exactly, it's quite stupid. To distinguish between Г and Ґ we use H and G, but first is actually very close to G and second is very hard to transliterate, but still close to G. And when you think about it's really atrocious, that's why Харків is Kharkiv, were K serves no purpose other than destroying larynx of foreigner. QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jun 11 2020, 05:11) For russians
Yes, our systems are different, like Will is still Вілл. This post has been edited by Benny-boy: Jun 11 2020, 13:32
