Is it worthwhile in general or only for IW/PFFEST?

Well i would say, if it helps you survive, or at least save some time/mana/spirit by taking much less overall damage, it is absolutly worthwhile. I mean it would be at least worth a shot. Try it out, if it doesnt actually help, at least you know for sure. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

I ran the numbers a while back, it can only reach 96% but that is still pretty good and might be better than Shortsword of Balance in the offhand. I didn't try to calculate that comparison as your main hand weapon and shade armor should also be taken into account.

Also I should mention that it may not be essential to have very high accuracy. Because to get the maximum offhand strike you can be quite far off from maximum, except on wakizashi which happens to need near-peerless to reach 94% offhand strike. Although we don't know for certain; the game could use fractional percent offhand strike and not display that to us.

Due to the malus in ADB for offhand, at that point I'd prefer a shortsword of swiftness if it's to forge the accuracy like mad. But then if it's to use a swiftness weapon, a waki is way better at that job.

That being said, don't forget that a Balance weapon used as offhand will raise the critical hit chance for both weapons. That's the one reason I'd go for balance as offhand if I want to have maximum damage output.

I wouldnt say that.

*wiseasse-mode on* I mean we compare here stabbing weapons with cutting weapons. And both are in RL best at different situations. As if any firearm before the invention of the percussion lock would be something someone should take serious. And people did even in the 18th century still use weapons with matchlock, some people did use them even until the 20th century, mostly in asia iirc.
