Thats the problem I have with melee. I could do it more efficiently, item wise, but god it takes 10x+ longer.

Not without the burden. With haste on, my Actionspeed is over 240. Fast enough to get an extra attack every round (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It's slow in real life.
Melee, using the fastest kind of setup, is already so damn slow compared to maging, and increased that by (at least) a factor of 2 if using mace...

Oh, you mean that. DW wasn't that fast either and I haven't maged since level 20 so I don't really know the difference.
Maging is also more expensive in terms of items and AP. So if you aren't rich, you can't exactly just blast through everything indefinitely.

I'm definitely not rich, and with midling gear I can clear rounds in 1-2 actions. So I burn through godly mana pots, I'm still finding them at a slightly higher rate than I use them, and 1-2 actions vs melee keymashing saves me a tremendous amount of actual clock time.

Well it will be always slow, but I do like to use my mace one day in IWBTH EoD+ arenas one day...
And soul stones cost the same as mana elixirs now, plus their drop rate as been doubled.

I'm getting way more mana elixirs than Soul Stones. Not a general rule, it's just me, I know.
Just for fun, I did Real Life with it. I was hit only one out of four attacks against me. It took me 19 minutes, dunno how fast I could do it with DW and recasting everything all the time.
Hits taken: 1/4 (25.00%), Missed: 1/4 (25.00%), Evaded: 2/4 (50.00%), Blocked: 0/4 (0.00%), Parried: 0/4 (0.00%), Resisted: 0/0 (0%), Crits taken: 0/1 (0.00%), Total taken: 376, Avg taken: 376.00

I wonder if there are any difference when maging after the change to how custom mobs are spawn and the 'agitated' feature added in the 0.5.2 patch ...?
