So I'm still doing lots of experiments on Dark Maging to answer one of HV's Great Mysteries: What is faster: imperil or non-imperil style?

Non-Imperil set-up: 4 charged, 1 radiant, 3 phase 2 cotton; shoes + Cap prof cotton.
As Sssss2, I currently have 0.98 prof factor

Imperil set-up: 4 phase + 1 cotton (plain peerless robe), and I can choose 4 charged or mix in 1 to 3 radiants.

Fastest speed achieved on Monday (dark day) the non-imperil style is 1 minute faster than the 3 radiant imperil style: 42 vs. 43 minutes. Always with some gum or vase in last 200 rounds. On all other days, I usually die in non-imperil style.

Fastest speed achieved on other days: Imperil Full charged: 48 min. Always with some gum or vase in last 200 rounds. I die sometimes, but almost never in full charged.

Today (Friday, so some Dark buff) I tried something new:
Non-Imperil set-up: 4 charged, 1 radiant, 3 phase 2 cotton; shoes + Cap prof cotton.

Play non-imperil (start round with hover) until round 500, then use imperil 2x per round (don't start round with hover) until round 800, then use gum or vase (alternating) and non-imperil play (start round with hover)

48 min. is the result. But I had to change Monsterbation twice. However, I didn't die.

You know what? I bet that if I get to 1.0 prof factor, that will help a lot, and my non-imperil build may get a little bit better in keeping me from dying. And then I can add 2 more full forged radiants. But at what cost? 2 randiants, full forged: 100m or so? I could gain the same time saving from playing imperil, with gum or vase from round 700 instead of 800.

If you get the hang of imperil play, with a good set-up like shift+z and hovershift, I think imperil is the way to go for dark mage. My suggestion: Only when you have credits to burn, start thinking about non-imperil play for dark. But wait: if you have credits to burn, why not go holy?

Going mage built at your level will certainly be slower, more unsafe and a big pain in the ass. Wait until lv 400 is my advice.

If you play 2h light, or 1h heavy, and you get your ass kicked: lower the difficulty, and work on your gear in the mean time.

Lately I've been just missing too many attacks than before when i was just level 20, maybe it's because my gear was too heavy. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)
