Well, it's more, isn't it? If you would have a guitar amp, and it would go to 11, then that would be higher than normal ones that go to 10, so that's awesome, right? I got 5 stars! (warning: joke based on very old movie reference)

Super, you need proper lessons at what's the best things in life. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) Lesson 1: To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women.

QUOTE(gianfrix94 @ Jan 16 2018, 17:03) Well yeah, for writing online english is pretty necessary. Anyway, for getting a following, i saw it mostly go like this: write chapters that aren't too short often, make the story engaging, write it in a place were a lot of people pass, and people will flock to it. After you can publish the completed books on amazon too. It is respectable, imho. Like this dude: [ www.patreon.com] https://www.patreon.com/WildbowBut i dont write in english. There will be so much lost in translation. I did try it once, to show someone what i do write. It was so terrible. I guess it was like read something from a 5th grader. And no, i will never ever put anything i did wörk hard for, for free into the net. Well maybe a short extract. Like 10 pages or so. And i will never ever publish on amazon. Amazon is no publisher. They put every crap on their page, there is no quality control at all. I would never again respect myself if i would be on the same page, as some of those idiots who couldnt even spell plot even when their life would deppend on it. I am a proud writer and i ever will be. If this means, i will never make any real money with it? Well, so be it. But i will still be able to look the guy in the mirror into his eyes. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) QUOTE(qw3rty67 @ Jan 16 2018, 18:31) The wins make up for the losses, and things that bring in big bucks also tend to cost nearly-as-big bucks. I think the saying goes "it takes ten years before an author can makes sales on a book." Physical copies today are practically collector's items, so if you don't want to go online and sell the hard copy later, you're making things considerably more difficult for yourself. Also the publisher's cut is much larger compared to digital sales. It's time to embrace the new era (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Well i have some sales. No big ones. And i wouldnt not even be surprised, when no one in this forum ever, would even a see a book of mine in a shelf. In the end it is not that i am furstrated because i am not famous or rich. It is more like i feel like, those who get famous and rich, just dont deserve it mostly because they just dont care about nothing at all. Well, i have a few loyal readers, and i got even a few mails from them. I guess i should just be happy with what i have. I am working since years now on something quite big. Well, big for what i do sell normaly. And who knows? Maybe when i will be finish that could be it. A book edition above 10K books. Yeah, that would be nice. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) QUOTE(gianfrix94 @ Jan 16 2018, 20:54) Poor Stu internet works like 2 days every 2 months (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) Not true. I got this year allready 4 days. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif) QUOTE(reality_marble @ Jan 16 2018, 20:51) what kind of internet is that? ୧((#Φ益Φ#))୨
Well, it is a stick, with a mobilphone card in it. Max speed when it wörks around 110kB/s. Or around 1Mb/s for those who like it to fall for the commercial. You have to notice the small b, because it doesnt mean Byte. But who the hell does think about bits today? I mean that was something that was important when i got my first PC. But today it is just another method to nap the costumers. But hey, it is enough to play HV, check my mails, watch some Youtube vids on 480. And if it would acctually wörk like i pay for it, it would be happy. The only problem is that since october in the whole region the 3G netwörk is just fucked up. And 2G? With all those smartphones out there that use it too and all the traffic todays internet need? Fugetaboutit.

I use a stick with a sim card inside too Stu (it's called an Internet key (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)), but mine is fast though. Have you tried changing operator? Because yours seems to be a shit.

Well we call it a Surfstick and i just was to lazy to look up a translation. So i just used words i knew. Well, i have 110KB/s because that is the highest speed possible for the whole time. If i would change the operator, i still had to pay those one, still 1 year and a half before the contract ends, but also had a max speed of 7kB/s. I dont know how you look at it, but i preffer the 110kB/s. More digits.

Didnt you read that i am talking about 3G and 2G? There is no 4G around here, the next 4G network could be around away 60 Km from me, but i am not sure about that. You have to keep in mind that i live in a coming islamistic fale state, so of course we dont have high speed internet for the population.

QUOTE(gianfrix94 @ Jan 16 2018, 16:03) Well yeah, for writing online english is pretty necessary. English speakers probably don't often consciously realize how nice it is to have such sheer volume of stuff available to read (should they wish). I imagine readers of less popular languages have it a bit harder. Not that there's ever a dearth of stuff to read, but finding exactly the sort of thing you're interested in is easier when there's so much to choose from. QUOTE(gianfrix94 @ Jan 16 2018, 16:03) Anyway, for getting a following, i saw it mostly go like this: write chapters that aren't too short often, make the story engaging, write it in a place were a lot of people pass, and people will flock to it. Like this dude: [ www.patreon.com] https://www.patreon.com/WildbowHe's both skilled and lucky. I think it's quite easy to write a lot, and to write what you think is the best you can manage, without gaining that many readers. I don't know how it really works, but true real success isn't exactly common, and not for lack of trying. QUOTE(Uncle Stu @ Jan 17 2018, 15:20) It is more like i feel like, those who get famous and rich, just dont deserve it mostly because they just dont care about nothing at all. I guess they've figured out how to appeal to a sufficiently low common denominator to gain lots of readers while keeping their stories interesting enough. Balancing the two doesn't sound easy, though that's far from the only variable.

I know, i know. I just cant. I have much too high quality standards, and what somehow no one did mentioned, i do write in the wrong genre. I will sure as sure never actually write a bestseller that will be published in multiple languages. The genre is way too small for that. Or at least it is here. A colleague of me, who writes contemporary literature tell so often, i should change the genre when i actually want to make enough money with it to pay my bills. Btw i do that once in a while when my agency ask me to do it for a contract. But i just dont feel that happy with it. It is part of making a name. Even when it is just a small name. But i could never change it forever.

Well now you've got to tell us what the genre is! I'm going to guess poetry. Future political epic poetry. With no death stars, rebel factions, or star crossed lovers (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Poetry? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) You really think i am one of those poets, who think they, and they alone, have the ability to put the whole wisdom humanity can ever have in a few words just because of some rhythm and rhyme bullshit? Such of those that create verbal diarrhea in an amoung you could fill whole phone books with them? I may be never a great, famous or rich writer. But i put actually hard work into the average 100k words in a book. I work hard to create protagonists the reader can root for. I spend hours just to create a background to fill a story with life. I dont just put a few words together and tell people if they dont understand what i mean they are just to stupid to understand. I never have nor ever will, do peotry!

Quote from Red Dwarf Season 4 Episode 2 DNA I don't care what model it was. No vacuum cleaner should give a human being a double polaroid. Altered Quote from Doctor Who Season 9 Episode 11 Heaven sent The day you lose someone isn't the worst. At least you've got something to do. It's all the days they stay gone. Original Quote (It's funny, the day you lose someone isn't the worst. At least you've got something to do. It's all the days they stay dead.) Quote from Doctor Who Season 9 Xmas Special The Husbands of River Song To fall in love? - It's the easiest lie you can tell a man. They'll automatically believe any story they're the hero of. Quote from Red Dwarf Season 11 Episode 6 Can of Worms It wasn't a cat, it wasn't a woman, you just had sex with a genetically engineered insectoid arachnid. - It still counts. It counts. Why doesn't it count? I'm counting it! Where is the poetry in that? I cant see it.
