frankly speaking, i never heard about him. not that it matters too much, there are many things about history i don't know (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) reason probably is that he was a naturalist, i'm more fond of physics.

seems he was active in the second half of XVI century at University of Bologna, the most ancient university on all Europe. to give you a physics-based comparison, in the same period a certain Galileo was active at Padova, 100 km North.
according to the title of those works he did many reasearches in nature: trees, animals, fishes... what we in AD 2017 would call biology, ecology, zoology, botany... probably he started also to compare a few of them, since he drew so much.

he also has a museum by himself.

Every little bit of counter-resist you can get is incredibly useful for PFUDOR and Imperil mage. A single resisted Imperil may well mean that the whole round takes one (or two) turns longer, and with damage spells, -50% damage from a single resist is pretty noteworthy.

If not playing PFUDOR, monsters resist less often, so there's less need to counter it - and if the difficulty is low enough, monsters will be too wimpy for even occasional -50% damage from resist to be that much of a concern. Playing lower difficulty also means it's less likely you're using Imperil, and getting Imperil to land regularly is probably the most useful effect of additional counter-resist.

So it depends on the situation and your playstyle. Pen 5 might be essential if you Imperil and play on PF, or it might be just nice otherwise.

Not really. I think beginner-ish mages should be quite satisfied with proficiency suffix staffs - they're generally an order of magnitude cheaper (or more) than Destruction / EDB suffix staffs, to the point that they often don't even reliably go for 50k+ past level 400.

Even though Destruction staffs are significantly better with heavy forging, and EDB suffix staffs might perform better, the difference between them and a proficiency staff probably isn't enough to justify spending a ton extra, I think. Matching staffs by themselves aren't so rare, it's just that the best performing ones are.

I actually so bored waiting so that currently I'm willing to bid at any willow of destruction (as I found phase of any kind is almost always turn up every week, so they're easier to gather). But really tho, is proficiency staffs isn't so bad? Has anybody tested the difference between them?
