I disabled FF updates just in time, once I realized that the big new release would break many extensions.
I prefer my programs as products rather than services.

There was a big, big warning about this on recent firefox versions. Plus, it flagged some extrnsions as obsoletes and one could've based his choices also on which extensions were allowed and what not.
I guess you may try with a rollback or look for the exact version you had before, if you were satisfied with it (just in case, I suggest v56 which is recent and has the flag thing, so you can check what's going on). Or maybe downloading tampermonkey, iirc...

Greasemonkey still works in Firefox 57, some scripts probably needs to be updated for compatibility. Or, as you said, another solution is switching to Tampermonkey which is already supported by pretty much all the scripts.

So is 57 the critical version? I noticed that a lot of extensions are flagged with obsolete, but for now they seem to work. But I can't update them (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) This post has been edited by End Of All Hope: Nov 15 2017, 14:06

it's just a wild guess of mine though. personally i saw saucenao updating and disabled all auto-updates just to be safe. also, have a firefox portable v56 with autoupdates disabled - and i think i'll keep it as it is now for a while. aye. the mere fact they are flagged doesn't mean anything, if you still work with an "obsolete" version of firefox. btw, in case someone wants to roll back: [ ftp.mozilla.org] https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/personally i suggest v56.0.2 or 56.0.1

If you want to stick with a version of Firefox that supports old plugins, you should use the [ www.mozilla.org] Firefox 52 ESR. Outdated browsers tend to have nasty security holes, and that one will be updated until June 2018.

Is it really was that necessary for Mozilla to make all this stuff that complicated and weird and "re-work" the addon/extension system? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) This post has been edited by f4tal: Nov 15 2017, 15:53

Yes. Not that bad, but still an extra headache. I am not that proficient in Mozilla's open-source business and policy, so maybe all these updates and reworks are necessary, but at least for me it is an extra pain. A little, but still. Okay, nevermind, just random rants, I am a google fanboy after all (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Yes, turn off your updates before Firefox 57 gets you. It's that horrible. I'm trying Pale Moon again and too bad it's not a popular browser because it has potential. I used it a long time ago but they fucked it up and it's still pretty bad in looks and there's no good add-ons so I'll probably abandon it. I've tried Opera in the past and it's awful. This is a tragic day for internetting. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

(IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) As long as your scripts work with tampermonkey on Firefox 57 I would say you don't really need to do anything. You shouldn't be the one forced to update the scripts because the new greasemonkey is not backward compatible.

So far I'm having luck with Pale Moon. After a lot of customizing, I've got it looking similar to the way my FF once looked. Stylish doesn't work with this version of Pale Moon. Any suggestions on what I can use to replace it? No matter what I try, I get this error message. QUOTE This add-on requires a newer version of Firefox (at least version 42.0). You are using Firefox 27.9.

Now I'm trying Waterfox and it's more updated than Pale Moon but while it can use some FF legacy add-ons, some things still aren't compatible.
Greasemonkey doesn't work in Waterfox so I installed Tampermonkey and then added Monsterbation. It's working but why is it really slow? That's how it was acting in FF Quantum with Greasemonkey. It's choppy and slow when I hover over the monsters.
