i tend to prefer the sweet ones, personally:

So do i normaly. But the cheese and ham was on discount and i had allready some chicken nuggets made of marshmallow (not sure about that translation but no matter what site i ask they all want to call Schaumzucker marshmallows (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) ) so i did take something without sugar.

QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Oct 27 2017, 07:56) *
While we are on the subject, is anyone here good at reversing checksums or encryption algorithms? It is necessary to do save/memory editing in many games today such as on Xbox 360 or PS3. Each game may have its own algorithm. I am fairly good at editing data better than most people, but I am an amateur at hash sums and encryption.

It is not easy things to explain at all (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
Even if main concepts are same for every console and game, still there are lots of quirks in how each console stores and gets the data - to teach you how to do it in PS3/XBOX360 - one should know how to do it for these particular systems, I doubt there are any cross-console techs.
I mostly in PSX business and know nothing about any other console or system (apart from android).
My PSX folder is huge garbage, I know, with lots of utilits, patches and software and sometimes even i cannot say what all this sh1t is for:
Attached Image
And the process of hacking of game is no way easier:
Attached Image

There is one great book that greatly helped me understand how hacking is working in case of PSX: [gamehacking.org] https://gamehacking.org/faqs/PSX.pdf
Maybe there is something like this for PS3/XBOX360?

QUOTE(as013 @ Oct 27 2017, 08:28) *
Also, as far as I know, checksum most, if not all, of the time is a destructive process, which means you lose data after calculating checksum for some piece of data so it doesn't really make sense to reverse engine checksum.

Depends on the game and purpose actually. One may have a goal of corrupting of the game (yeah, I know, crazy). Some people just like to break the game and make them as laggy/glitchy as possible

I do read them in English, but come on...! It is a porn, how can it teach English in any way? xD

Lately I started to watch english videos at 1.25x speed to save time (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Hmm, good idea, actually... Haven't thought about it. I need that function back in the days when I watched Space Odyssey 2001. Movie is great, but it takes SOOO FRICKING LONG for transition from one scene to another. Suspense and such I know, but still - too long.

QUOTE(Sapo84 @ Oct 27 2017, 10:40) *
P.S. Don't use sci-fi books to learn english (or any type of book that may contain weird terminology or neologisms), it's an incredibly painful process.

I have read Star Wars comics (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

don't underestimate doujin. if properly translated, they can teach you a somehow smarter-than-academic-level language. and i don't mean those useless descriptions about genitalias (well, if you can discern which are embarrassing rather than descriptions you're at a good point), i mean a bit of actual dialogue.

I mostly learned language by books too. Sent it on tablet and used dictionary program for unknown words. Thats quite easy, just press on word and its translated. First time it was quite hard, and actually not so much because such words (usually several on small page), but because foreign language doesnt have same visual associations and its phrasing is completely different too. Instead of enjoying book it was more like struggling with interpretation. But with time i used to that and it became much easier and better.

Speaking honestly its almost impossible to learn nonnative language completely. With time you can understand difference between "smart" and "clever", but language isnt only words or context. Its also whole culture. Even something like which cartoons you watched in childhood or what slang you used when was teen. You probably wont use it in common talk, but it can appear from time to time.

P.S. speaking about translators, google did quite good job there. Even japanese vn games makes some sense.

Agree

I have a problem with understanding some cultural or media references in Family Guy or Simpsons shows (especially in the former, because it relies on them in "cutaway" gags a lot).

For example, in Russia very few people watched the classic "Willy Wonka & Chocolate Factory" movie (1971) and I haven't watched it until last year too. Without seeing that movie I just could not get some gags and parodies in various medias, especially about "There is no life I know"-song or jokes about "scary tunnel".
Funny, I have listen the track "Through The Loop" by group Pendulum for ages and haven't know that vocal from that track is actually a sample from the "Wonka" movie. It was like a spark of enlightenment for me (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

So, yes, culture, movies, tv shows, cartoons and many-many more play an important role in understanding the language.

that's a decent way to learn a language. actually i have a bookmark for wordreference in both my pc and my cell. the only drawback is that you don't improve your speech abilities, so you may even reach, saying, a remarkable C1 (or close to) level on writing/reading while retaining a humble B1 on speech...

that's just because it's family guy and the simpsons, the former has always used celebrities/pop culture to make jokes (those cheap bastards) and the simpsons has delved over the years into a zombified state in which they HAVE to invite a celebrity or make some commentary about some recent issue, which isn't so recent since an episode takes many months to make (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

not croissants, sure we have many jam filled buns, and chocolate too, but the only thing I've seen in a croissant is cheese and some with cheese and ham bologna

of course. but worry not, you won't be able to catch past a certain amount of them if you aren't a native

There's an app for wordreference.
I have that one and context reverso's one as well.

And mmm, to explain my level of "immersion" in the english realm (and language)...let's say that I dream very often in english, or bilingual italian/english, and a lot of times I find myself reasoning in english, out of the blue, it relaxes me somehow (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif)

spellcaster, not mage. mage relies on offensive spells, spellcaster on deprecatives. not so wide spread here, but there's some, uh... fan?

still, not enough to justify a 2.6M price (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)

Well, time to start working towards saving for a Mage set. 4.5 million so far. I guess I'll probably see what I can get for a good quality staff first and then build the rest of the set around there (including what actual element I use).
