What's the point of 8 gigs of RAM when you have a 32-bit installation?

32 bit based systems, aka XP and below or 32 bit versions of Vista/7/8.1/10, can not manage more than 4 gb of ram.
They just can't see it.

That's why I feel bad, it's almost 4 years since I had this pc, so many firefox crashes, skyrim performing poorly even on low resolutions, heck what else could have performed better?

I remembered a 4chan post about a guy owning a ps3 for some years and he didn't know the joystick cable was detachable, I thought back then, there cannot be someone that oblivious, can it? Oh, the irony

Firefox will always use up quite a bunch of ram if you open many tabs with a lot of objects.
It usually start to get laggy with 2.6-2.7 gb of usage and afaik it can't go past 3.
At least with my pc.

It consumes the same ram with my current 12 gb of ram and with my old 4.

The difference is that with 4 ff uses 75% of the ram thus the system makes ff crash sooner or later.
With 12 gb ff uses 25% ram and lags but I get no crashes.

Am I the only one here who turned off signatures and avatars? o_O

I turn off images completely through browser side.

For me it behaves like this:

a couple of tabs 3-400 mb

10 tabs 1 gb
15 tabs 1.5 gb
30 tabs 2 gb
50 tabs 2.5 gb
100 tabs 2.7 gb
200 tabs 2.8 gb
300+ tabs 3 gb and no matter how many I open it stays

Tabs with lots of pics like pixiv pages

I turn off images completely through browser side.

Because for me there is no quote and reply buttons

The tricky things - links DO exist, however they have 0 width and I cannot click them.
I can, however TAB to them - but this is messy.


I was asking not because I do not believe in what Dead-ed and want him showing me off how to navigate - no. I already saw once that my Chrome browser shows site without images a little bit different than for other users and I want to know why. =/
Btw, same for Firefox - no buttons what so ever.

Maybe there is some sort of plugin and addon one can use to replace images with placeholder? Just my curiosity...

Have you tried turning on avatar and signature preview to see what happens?
