QUOTE(LOL50015 @ Sep 11 2017, 11:01) This made me think about equality vs equity. Someone could have struggled through their whole HV career and just have 50 tickets to show for it just because they weren't lucky enough to be born in a first-world country with high speed internet. They were given the same tools as everyone else but not the same opportunities. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) what you mentioned is merely the same mechanic every lottery suffers. one can literally become rich spending 1€ and one can go bankrupt while retrieving 70% of what he spent at most (which is a proven theorem). lotteries are demochratic when it comes to allow access, but way more random when it comes to rewards. one studies twenty years to build himself (and possibly his family) a future and when it's time to work he doesn't find a proper one because too old or too qualified. then you come to understand that market looks for 20yo, graduated with perfect score and with 25 years of work experience. even though with scholarship system many people have access to study. is this any better? and frankly speaking, a bit more important than a lottery on an internet game. we are a community, we chat, we enjoy our time here (i hope we do, at least). but let's not forget what matters in RL, shall we? At least in our case, there are quite a few ways to gain currency. HV grinding is one way (for someone who's gotten to ~300+), but it's not the only way. (Unfortunately, real life is not quite as forgiving, and most of the time involves spending vast amounts of time at the salt mines)

btw, you made me realize that in order to earn a decent revenue it could not be a bad idea to bid a handful of euros every week. i fear i could become an addicted without even realizing it though...

You will definitely become addicted if you gamble in hopes of earning decent revenue.

The marginal utility of wealth is diminishing, though. Anyone who isn't rich already will probably value $1 they spend on a lottery more 1/1,000,000 of the utility of a theoretical $1,000,000 lottery reward. (without even considering operator profit) I like Dead-ed's approach: QUOTE Spend less, worry less

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Sep 11 2017, 06:05) Total value counter hit the 32-bit integer limitation. Didn't affect the current value counter, and it was fixed already.
Good to know that. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Just took another look at the lottery system today. Hmm, I would say it's like an auction system in disguise. Except that people who lose the auction don't get their money back. Therefore most weak and poor players should not bid on any highly desirable item. It's a system that enables the rich to get richer, and the poor to throw their money away and get poorer. On the other hand if there are enough rich players around, the system could remain fair in that at least the rich players feed off of each other, and hopefully the poor players are smart enough not to flush money down the toilet. If the lottery lasts long enough and not enough people play the game, then it could become a viable option for everyone to use. For example if it generated 100 peerless items a day...eventually everyone would have what they wanted and the weaker players could get a turn to eat. I feel sad and discouraged from playing this game after thinking and writing all this. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

No matter whether you're poor or rich, participating in the lotteries in the hopes of getting high-quality loot is less cost-effective than buying/bidding on stuff other players are selling. (except possibly for the three or four top-tier gear types, like Radiant Heimdall, matching staves, and Savage Slaughter) Lotteries generally aren't a good investment regardless of wealth - it's just that the rich can afford to throw funds away more than the poor can. QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Sep 12 2017, 07:41) the system could remain fair in that ... and hopefully the poor players are smart enough not to flush money down the toilet. I think it's already fair in that it's completely optional. IMO, just like in real life, the lottery is, for the most part, a stupidity tax. Personally, I think we have far too much gear quality inflation already. Even many Peerless aren't worth much nowadays; most of the regulars have gotten quite close to the ceiling.

guess it's a credit sink, like many other perks. though i have to say it'd be nice if purchasing it allowed to remove the noisy "are you sure? this will cost 0 credits" popup. it's not like you cannot recall them afterall...

I would say its more of an anti-spam measure that doubles as a minor sink

3 choices are applejack, rainbow dash, fluttershy. I don't know if fluttershy or applejack. Usually I can recognize which without looking at the answers first

HVtoolBox should eliminate them. Check "remove alert/confirm windows " in settings. QUOTE First time I can't answer riddle. Something worth to report Tenboro. Honestly I cannot answer it too. Applejack, I think, but since that bastard can rake off his hat I am not sure anymore... QUOTE anti-spam measure Hmm, that sounds reasonable, yes, now I understood.
