QUOTE(LOL50015 @ May 2 2017, 01:19) Almost all doujins are also mirrored on the N site
Which would collapse under the load within a matter of days. No distribution cluster picking up the majority of slack for serving that site.

And still, it has a shitload of fakku content, and older wani stuff that here got deleted (even though fakku won't even pick it up and translate it since it's "old"), and it's still here, alive. Seems like nobody even considers it when making copyright claims (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

QUOTE(Fap.Fap @ May 3 2017, 00:22) what is nyaa ? full website name?
QUOTE(RoadShoe @ May 3 2017, 06:11) Same here. I googled it, and still don't know the site's name. Lots of "OMG! It's down!" articles though. It must have been pretty popular. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Its the biggest torrent index site and tracker for anime related stuff. Personally, its a long time since I used it but it has always been symbolically significance. Think of it as a beacon of the anime sharing culture. Anyway, that doesn't matter now, officially dead now. It's been confirmed the owner pulled the plug.

nyaatorrents, then. god only knows how many anime series i could've downloaded there (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) but well, when a site/server of this kind becomes too big, it starts earning attention. then majors start sueing them, and in case they cannot close it, a DOS/DDOS attack may follow. if you remember, emule's Razorback was one of the first victims of this. then thepiratebay, demonoid (which at times could rival thepiratebay itself). and then the file hoster massacre, apparently triggered by megaupload and which led all the surviving hosters to severely cut the bandwidth and mass-delete certain contents at the very least. and so on, and so on. nyaa is one of the many victims of this. as illustrious as it may have been.

Frankly, I'd rather Nyaa die in a blaze of glory rather than die of fear. I'm pretty sure had the owner offered the site up for adoption, the community would gladly take over. Hell, even if he had just given us a few days of heads-up the community would mirror the whole site and nothing would have been lost. Given how sudden this is, I sometimes wonder if he's been exposed and was blackmailed into closing it.

no clue. what i know it's that it's not unheard that in some cases major themselves were involved in those attacks. whether it's true or only a rumor, well... no clue either (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif) slight OT: i'd need a precursor artifact. price 24k. first come, first served.

I don't see any WTBs for Flower Vases or Bubblegum.
Have their prices gone down to normal again?

QUOTE(End Of All Hope @ May 4 2017, 18:42) Has the Apocalypse started? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Here in my country, from one year to now, many good sites have closed (forums, fansubs, scans, etc). And many of those who remain are living being denounced and having to change their hosting address. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) The strange thing is that, just the ones who make money from illegal streaming (for anime), and the speedsubs (with horrible subtitles) that earn with advertisements and the sale of "premium links" (for faster download), never fall. It all depends on the material showed. And where the servers are located.

Yeah I disabled a buncha scripts to make HV faster. Guess I still need to wait this rush out. How much longer will these guys keep these prices up?

The values for those have been pretty high for a long time. I think, just like EDs, you may well expect high demand to continue for the foreseeable future. Btw, scripts will only really slow down HV if they actually run on the HV page and also run some nontrivial amount of code, for the most part. (so, for example, disabling forum or gallery scripts won't have any effect. Look at their @includes)

QUOTE(Basara Nekki @ May 5 2017, 05:42) I wouldn't consider BakaBT dead. The content is still there, just placed behind closed doors for now. I would think of it as an extended downtime. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) This is actually something I noticed for a long time. People who are savvy enough to make money off of what they do are also savvy enough to understand the climate of what they do and how to stay on top of it. Then these are those who do it only for fun. They produce high quality content due to their passion but are sometimes naive, docile and ignorant to everything else that they don't like, like copyright, SEO and web security. Like they say, to get away from the bear, you don't need to outrun the bear.

Yes, I might come back later, but maybe as a private tracker (like those who need an invitation to enter). QUOTE(LOL50015 @ May 5 2017, 01:49) Just curious, but would you mind telling me what country?
Brazil. QUOTE(LOL50015 @ May 5 2017, 01:49) People who are savvy enough to make money off of what they do are also savvy enough to understand the climate of what they do and how to stay on top of it.

This is what I've heard a lot about here, is that those people who make money from it are just the ones who make the denunciations against the others, to reduce the competition. The strange thing is that the opposite ("fansub" reporting "speedsub") almost never works. Companies like Crunchyroll do not seem to care about speedsubs; only with fansubs.
