Because they are quite clever. Tbh their language is kinda similar to us. They have full range from sound and syllable up to phrases/paragraphs, context and even dialect. They also use body language and basically from time of their foundation (tens of millions years ago) they developed their brain up to quite complex thing. The only difference they dont have fine motor skills, so they dont use such stuff as hand tools which lead us to better technology.
The bad thing is that they do bad stuff like some humans do.
For example if they attack a female with a baby, they can kill the baby in the process.
(and that's why female dolphins tend to stay in bigger groups to protect the babies, and bite/bash the males that get too close)
