I think the 6weeks / year are pretty common across Europe.
In Italy we have around 4 weeks / year mandatory (meaning you must take them) plus 2-3 additional weeks (depends on contract).
$39/h for a forklift driver seems a bit hard to believe honestly, salaries around Europe are not that different (even Switzerland, which is like Eldorado, only have roughly double the pay) and that amount is very very high.
Wow... 6 weeks a year..
The vacation policy for salary where I work (And it's a Global Corporation) is "No limit Vacation" We can take as much as we feel we can take and still perform our jobs. Sound good? Of course it doesn't. (IMG:[

Vacations are rare due to the policy. (IMG:[

Because when is anyone in the entire world ever caught up enough to take it?
I take a week.... sometimes 2 weeks max a year. Those max 2 weeks are never combined.

I have a cousin that works in germany and his wage is about 2,5 times more the one my father has.
And they do the same work (IMG:[

Germany should be making a fortune on their cars alone!
We suck up BMWs and Mercedes over here like they're candy.
Especially since the last decade when they started making middle and lower class models. Going down the interstate, a person where I live is surrounded by BMW 300 series.
500's are common and the occasional 700's , but especially 300's.
Twenty-somethings eat them up.
The Mercedes 350 series? 5 or 6 at every grocery store parking lot at any time.
The joke we have at work is that the country of Germany does not have enough land to park all of our BMWs and Mercedes. (IMG:[
