He claimed that making winners choose would increase the chance of multiaccounts monopolyzing all five.
But it's the same as now.
Even now one can make five accounts and try to do that.
So his claim was aimed to a change that doesn't exist.

My point was that spending 5X the GP with a solid risk of being banned (wasting hundred of millions of credits and donations) is not worth for getting a peerless equip in a browser game.

If I remember correctly, during those times they didn't use multi-accounting but ask others to buy on their behalf and have them send the equipment to them if they won.
