QUOTE(Overt Ninja @ Jul 3 2016, 19:03) So, what do you call a guy that buys 3 different legendary rapiers all with 50+ ADB, 2 of them ethereal but apparently doesn't use them? Not trying to call anybody out, but I'm genuinely curious as to why they'd spend that much money.
Either scalpers or low self-esteem people They are people who buy what they can rather than what they need. They inflate prices and keep gears out of the reach of people who actually need them just to either to boost their ego or resell them for profit.

I despise this kind of mentality. They'd rather let an item rot in a shop for so many months and overcharge for it rather than let someone who really needs it get it for a decent price. It really discourage newer players from aspiring.

QUOTE(Overt Ninja @ Jul 3 2016, 13:10) One of what? He already owns one of the rapiers.
hey, i'm not him. it's pretty obvious another reason may be the one explained by lol, but i won't say anymore without knowing if it's at least the usual name (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) QUOTE(Mantra64 @ Jul 3 2016, 13:14) This one did cost me a lot back then. Legendary Fiery Rapier of Slaughterduh. too bad it's untradeable (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif) QUOTE(kyouri @ Jul 3 2016, 13:17) If it doesn't contribute to a discussion ala brag post then its pretty pointless, speaking of which we have plenty of pointless threads, pointless rants of being poor and pointless rants about the lack of rng/drops.
alright, now we're speaking the same language (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

QUOTE(Logii @ Jul 2 2016, 11:38) I think you are giving too much value to Ethereal prefix. Like I said before, the Burden is not that important to 1H players, as long as the overall burden is <70. I would have really hard time picking if I could take either Ethereal one or Demonic one with the same stats. IW is painful enough even without the elemental strike gamble for Ethereal ones. For DW Ethereal Rapier is probably better.
Well currently my burden is 66.9, which means that any of the non-ethereal rapiers in Superlatanium's last auction would have taken me past 70, so what do I do then? This post has been edited by jacquelope: Jul 3 2016, 18:42

I'm on 69.9 with mag tier rapier and boots. Pretty sure If I upgraded both of them to legendary tier I'd be below 70 even without an ethereal rapier

Wow...so much magnificent stuff then. My burden is 64.1, and I have an elemental rapier...without it I'd have 57 (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

In that case your crit chance might take a hit. Usually Legendary grade Power armors have low enough Burden that elemental prefixed Rapier is not a problem (my Burden is 67.3 with elemental Rapier and no Mithril armors). If your overall Burden is going to go over 70, Ethereal Rapier can be uselful. However, you can also buy armor with lower burden or Mithril prefixed armor or use Featherweight Shards (long duration, low cost). I think that Ethereal Rapiers as a Burden reduction are mostly useful for DW users and perhaps for players that use Plate armor (for example Shielding Plate for Grindfest). Even then you can use Featherweight Shards when you need lower Burden. Of course if you can get a dream-like IW like Madprank got, Ethereal is definitely the one I would go for, but the chance of getting Dark Strike after otherwise perfect IW is really small, so small that you will probably pay millions to get there. With elemental prefix you always know what you will be getting.

Bah, this right here is why I have declined to part with my ethereal rapier, it came to me with Holy strike as the 10th pot. All I need is infusions of darkness and I now have >6000 of those.

Well, the trick to getting a decent IW at the lowest cost is to select the lowest difficulty which will give your piece of equipment 1 level of potency. If that level does not correspond to what you are looking for then reset the item. Then, if you finally get that first level right, you want to get the second level to be the same one again. Rinse and repeat until you have 2/10 of your desired potency. After that you have a very good chance that over the next 7-8 level ups you will max out at least that one particular potency. I think I saw somewhere that the system gives preference to the existing potency instead of making new ones, which explains why I can usually nail my desired combo with 10-30 shards.

I think the "godly IW" comes about from getting not just the Butcher 5 Fatality 4 combination (which is already plenty tricky and costs millions from an IW service), but also to get Dark Strike on top of that. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I mean, it could just as well have been Fiery Strike, and most people would just live with it instead of attempting to get Butcher 5 Fatality 4 again. In fact, some people stay at potency level 9, and use infusions to get Dark Strike, rather than run the risk of getting Fiery Strike.

I admit I was tempted to leave it at 9/10 but then I though that I never got holy/dark strike out of about 10weapons that I leveled up before so I decided to risk it. Thankfully I was lucky this time (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
