If I auction an item I don't want the auctioneer to have the power to randomly ban people because he doesn't like the way they bid (they could have easily raised the bid on my item, why would I want them banned if they have not violated any clearly stated rule?).

exactly. it seems to me that there are two purposes in conflict between them here: maximum profit and eradicating snipe bids.
if you think about it, a snipe bid is (per its own definition) a bid, thus a raise, thus more incoming.
if i was a seller, personally i would welcome all snipe bids because - who cares? it's still credits coming your way. at most, i may be a bit disappointed during the week, but there's a reason if all auctions are open more than one day and end at weekends.
if i was an auctioner, i may be a bit disappointed by the fact that everyone waits the last minute and i have to refresh the page countless times, but this isn't even a problem anymore. and once again, more profit.

plus, extension time is already there to contrast sniping phenomenon (the only aftermaths being that the auctioneer, bidders and audience have to stay up for more time), and it's pretty efficient on its own. if you don't like to stay there you can resort to proxy bids. it seems to me that both Superlatanium and issary are reasonable auctioneers (even if issary doesn't actually offer proxy bids), so allow me to ask: what are we even speaking about?

yep. i said it numerous times, i'm not a sniper (well, at least not a regular one (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) but back then i bid on the first day and was outclassed towards the end. when you're in an auction the time you used to own the highest bid matters less than the times i look at cleavages. what actually matters is the last bid.
what i personally do is: checking the items the first day, taking note of what i want, maybe checking every once in a while to see if price is still within a reasonable range and eventually discard them and finally, login the last hour or so to bid.

i was outnumbered too many times to waste my time bidding on Monday and hoping that nobody outclasses me until Saturday.

The problem is that we want items going to people who pays the most, not people who happens to be at the right place, at the right time

Sniping isn't a major problem, but its still an undesirable phenomenon.

you're a bidder - it's in your interest to check if someone outbidded you. it's a game so nothing wrong if you prefer ie to go out or sleep rather than checking auctions (what's more important afterall? a sequence of bits or your social life? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) but if someone else is interested in that same item and prefers auctions, you're doomed. or rely on the next auction (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The problem with auctions is that once those with a big budget has completed their sets, the value of items will decrease.

Equipment which costs 10m+ a month ago might just get 1m this week.

Do not forget different speed. Actually in turn-based game where all people have different speed - PvP and PvR are impossibly ^^"
But this may work if HentaiVerse had feature like in Progress Quest or Godville. Two people can create alliance and do 12-hour run in dungeon without any control from players at all... Example:
1. I invite some player in dungeon
2. He take my invite
3. After he take my invite he and me see the text: "Now your character in long-long run. Check him after 12 hours"
4. During this 12 hours I can't do RE, arena and other battle mods, can't do item management, can't use moogle mail, aka "freeze mode"
5. When 12 hours is expired I and my friend see text like this:
"During this adventure, you are:
- Kill XXX monsters
- Did finishers XXX times", and player receive some rewards depending on how many he killed monsters and did finishers
The main idea is how good combo you and your friend are - this we can configure and create somekind of triggers and conditions to calculate effectivity of player's combo based on their current stats, equipment and level.
So, actually I am talking about zero-player game with setup-only mode.
Basically we can use this "Uncontrollably mechanics" to introduce kind of gladiator arena, where player can send his persona to fight on arena with different players who send their personas too. Only this kind of "behind-the-scene coop and PvP" mechanics may work with current turn-based system of HentaiVerse =(

In a future update we can use new persona feature to create parallel playsystems - for example, I am sane one persona in Dungeon with one player, use second persona in another Dungeon with different player, send third persona into Gladiator arena and use forth persona to do RE and default arena... =P
