NRR32-33 earplugs. I'm currently using [www.amazon.com] these. Just like one of the reviews says, the orange Howard Leight ones do indeed leave your ear canals sore; it's like the foam they use sticks to your skin and pulls on it every time you have to pull one out. The Hearos don't do that.

You get used to resting the top of your head on a rolled-up pair of sweat pants so the fat earmuffs fit between your head and the floor. The remaining whirring that gets through, I can sleep through.
