Was the Dawn logic patch reverted? I thought it had changed to 10k flat (for gold stars) to "simplify the logic" or something.

A high-levelled cold mage said in the Japanese thread that 4+1 is better than 3+2 for elemental mages, reason being wearing two cotton pieces one loses too much firepower; he suggests the use of cotton robe or pants for a proficiency factor of ~1.8.
Note that his suggestion is based on the fact that none of his pieces is Radiant-prefxied. Since you have a fully forged PTRD and the two parts of your proficiency pieces are hands and foot (not much lose of EDB), 3+2 and 4+1 may result in similar clear speed for you, so better save your High-Grade Cloth rather than go for 4+1 ...

4+1 is better than 3+2 for elemental mages

Its true. I did similar research not so long ago. I was curios about counter-resist, because i have only 5pen and with 0,7 prof its ~55% counter-resist. And i also have edb staff, so i dont rly need edb so much. But result was quite simple. Edb lose is just too big. Even in very good case its -50edb. If player has 400, than its 5/4,5=11%. And if we forge phase even more than we also lose more. In my case 4+1 to 5+0 was ~0,1-0,15 t/round lose. And this situation is more or less same for any lvl.

And its also not so important, because i dont have high magic score or damage perks. And even in this case it was so low. The more power mage has the less "disadvantages" makes difference, right? If T3 hits for 400k, than its no important ll monster resist 50% or not. Its gonna die in 1 shot anyway.
