Been experimenting around a bit with Sleep on a hunch.

I know offensive spells are ill-advised but I did discover that Sleep (when it hits) makes an excellent mob control tactic when faced with >6 mobs in IWBTH RE. I came under serious fire against 8 enemies and with two asleep that made a huge difference in handling the other mobs: that cut their total offensive effectiveness by a rock solid 25%. Of course I now have a lot more mana than I used to and it cost me one mana pot to get my mana back up for an emergency cure, but in the end I (barely) survived IWBTH RE.

Counter-Attack hits multiple enemies (2 at my 1H prof level) but I realized that since it only happens when someone attacks you, it won't wake monsters up like Domino Strike - so mobs will keep sleeping until it expires, giving me time to handle other enemies and reducing the odds (or frequency) of multiple devastating (magic/crit/spirit) hits. A beautiful thing to happen in IWBTH mode.

2nd RE Experiment: 8 mobs again. The sleep spell hit 3 at one time, totally eliminating 37% of their fighting power, and its effects mysteriously outlasted the cooldown, allowing me to use sleep again on another set of enemies, reducing their overall effectiveness by 75%. Mob control indeed.

Of course, the spell has to hit, or you've got another 7 rounds of trouble. And I've trained Ability Boost to 48 so far so I have extra AP for max Mind Control. In all, a nice experiment I intend to repeat in the future: one missed sleep means lights out for me at that level. This tactic introduces an element of risk at >=IWBTH.
