QUOTE(qw3rty67 @ Jul 7 2015, 20:05) You can get in the GSC without donating? I'm talking about the other thing which is rumored to be accessible after a certain number of posts (and possibly various other requirements as well), which is likely the reason for many of those spammers. But since concrete information about what exactly the requirements are is not known, and since it is apparently against the rules to even explicitly mention, we are in this stupid situation we have today where newly registered users sometimes make many spam posts, in the hope of achieving something that likely won't happen anyway.

From IRC a few days ago after someone tried getting 50 posts: CODE <~Tenboro> I unbanned you. but for future reference, getting 50 posts does nothing

I have no typos, and I'm always on topic.
Talking about yourself is off-topic!

QUOTE(Superlatanium @ Jul 7 2015, 20:56) A more elegant solution would be to make the process less painfully obscure so people don't try to pull stupid crap like that to get in, but apparently that is not an option that can be considered I posted stuff about that on 2 chans (it was not 4chan/8chan or the likes, OK), I believe DGze did the same. Still, that does not seem very effective, or at least as effective as it was some 2 years ago. The people making the RAT browser add-ons have interest in keeping the process more secret than it had ever been.

The people making the RAT browser add-ons have interest in keeping the process more secret than it had ever been. At least here, if there were a probationary period of sorts, the new poster would (probably) understand that their posts are not going through - have to be reviewed first, and that a mod seeing spammy trash would not approve it and eventually ban. Without instant posting, they can't think "If only I find 10 more topics to reply to with a smiley, hopefully I'll have enough to access that place and get that doujin!" - no (hopeful) instant gratification. This is a special case for E-h, unlike other forums where the culprit is trying to spread advertisements/malware/affiliate links. Course it wouldn't completely stop those who try to spam, because idiots exist, but I would bet that it would significantly reduce it. Oh, and legitimate users wouldn't have to be subjected to seeing those posts either, unless the spammer was willing to make some semi-legitimate posts first. Just an idea, if the mods were willing and IPS has the software... The add-on writer(s)... it sounds like you are implying they are all login stealers/trojans? I haven't looked at the code myself, but I can't think of another reason why they would want the process to be difficult manually. And if that is true, I am surprised an admin would create and continue such a system in which something like that is the outcome, since it could affect well-meaning legitimate users of his own site.

What that addon really does is just messing around with your cookie to get rid of the panda thingy that you're stuck with because you tried to get in before it's unlocked for you. Then it logs in to EH
Wiping your cookie achieves the same thing though (or just deleting the "nope" key), but I suppose quite a few people either aren't savvy enough to do it, or patient enough to wait. The latter are those that complain that the add-on doesn't work.

Despite trying cookie wipes / relogin / browser reinstalls / different browsers etc, it has never worked for me, except for some strange reason on one particular computer I can rarely use - and I consider myself pretty savvy. I think I also tried using an addon a year or so ago, but it didn't work either. I guess I'm lucky I don't consider stuff there worth the effort. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (except when I want to do an editing job but I can't even access the pages unless I can get someone to separately upload the files somewhere else (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif))

That's the problem. Lots of new people join E-H. Who is insane enough to volunteer for checking hundreds, if not thousands, of spam post regularly? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) But I've seen post filters in VBulletin and MyBB which can prevent spams to some extent. It will be good if IPB can have something like that too. Speaking of which, which category do you people fall in? Hyperactive? Ultra Lazy? or in between those two? I fall in the 2nd category. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/duck.gif) This post has been edited by tetron: Jul 8 2015, 07:20
