In the Arena, Ether Tap is not needed at all, even in PFUDOR. It's only useful in Grindfest. Otherwise it just slows you down and break the flow of the gameplay.

It could be needed in the schoolgirl marathons on PFUDOR, depending on how good your equipment is, whether you're holy/dark or elemental, and whether you have access to Ether Theft or not.

The damage drop is too much for using one heimdall phase in elemental set.
The people who keep using scrolls should have some script to use semi or fully automatically. It is too hard to keep tracking the scroll duration.

Remember there was a time people keep buying scroll in WTB? I think I sold 5k of Scroll of Swiftness/Protection/shadows each. To the same player.

Spamming scrolls other than God and Avatar slows down the gameplay a lot. Furthermore, Scroll drops aren't enough for self sustaining. So I don't see a point in using them frequently. A more "Safe" gameplay? Sure, why not? Not my cup of tea though.
