For months I have experienced the same thing and am curious if it is happen to you as well.
Whenever I train a loot related training, it fells as being put in a week-long quarantine before the training begin to show some effect. During that time my drops get even worse before going back to normal.
Two days ago, I trained Scavenger from lvl 41 up to 44. But since then my drops really sucks. I haven't seen so many average and fine for weeks. Sometimes I get a superior and very rarely an exquisite drop. Magnificient are completely inexistant.
So my question is! Do the system need some time before the training is recognized as an improvement? Or why do the expensive(1mil+) trainings feels like a punishment instead of being rewarded?

P.S. LotD is 23
I've noticed that kind of thing too. I think there is some "loot counter", which resets every time when you increase your LotD.
The only strange thing i noticed with loot is that if you stop playing for some time you loot quality is increased, yet you can still say it's due to RNG.
Probably a bias in your perception with some bad luck on top. After an upgrade you monitor your drops more closely and expecting better loot, normal and shitty drops remain more vividly in your memory.
The only way to really tell would be to record enough data (like... A LOT) to see if your loot changed at all. I stress just how much data you would need to prove anything because you're probably trying to make a judgement based on the drops you remember... which can't end well.
Of course there's always the possibility that there's an actual troll counter but I wouldn't bet money on it.
Some months ago my LotD stayed at 17 for many weeks. I got some nice mag drops and therefor raised that level. From then on I have to wait almost 3 months before I got a mag drop again even if I continuely raised LotD up to my current level.
Since the next training cost 7.3mil, I tried to gather that amount together for some weeks. Suddenly I got some mag drops again and even a legendary. That's why changed my goal and raised scavenger instead. However to my horror, the quality of my drops changed drastically. Only 2-3 exquisites per day, some sup and the rest mostly fine and average. And I have been completing all the arenas up to T&T on IWBTH difficulty.
So I guess that 'Evil Scorpio' might be right with some kind of 'Loot counter' which resets after a training.
But maybe doing all the arenas each day might be to much playing and 'danixxx' is right. Could be interesting to see what kind of drop I would get if I stopped playing for a week or two...
It's certainly not impossible that it's written that way. For example, many rpg used to use a step counter that was a multiplier against a percent for triggering a random battle.
inb4 Tenboro codes in a confirmation bias factor in all RNG calcs just to fuck with everyone.
BS, tenb + snowflake sit around at night and throw darts at a members list so they can flip their "you get shit drops this week" switch. For a select few its always tripped (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)

I didn't mean for it to be a "mage vs. melee" thing. I just don't like the whiny, bitchy attitude of "there's nothing I can do" really. You are also 150 levels below him so forging for you will have less effect than it will for him. I know a mage who can play IWBTH level on all the arenas at his level and they are not the richest player. But yeah, I appreciate how expensive phazons are which is why I'm thankful that I'm happy being a slow as fuck shade/dw player.
Tbh, the more I forge my equipments the more I find out how impossible it is to do IWBTH (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
I now possess 1 legendary holy stick, 2 legendary max phase and 2 acceptable mag phases, scoring over 45.5k in holyscore.
For mages, I think having a high level helps a lot as well. Because tbh, forging defensive stats on phase suck balls. The extra stats from the attributes really help, I think...
lol wow. your magic score is way higher than mine. although that should be expected considering how much i threw into bounties rather than gear (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
well take in more spirit pots stop using spirit shield all the time try casting weaken on every monster try casting imperial on every monster stop playing IWBTH use soul spells to get spirit back

Well, I'm bringing 9 godly mana 4 godly spirit.
If I don't use SP shield then I'll just run out of mana curing or run out of spirit sparking.
The amount you get back depends on your base MP. Level 1 ET restores 23 MP/tick for me; level 2 restores about 43 MP/tick. I don't like it. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) With the old system I could reliably get back 35-46 MP/tick without having to bother with stacking. I do like how this new system decouples ET from the monster, though.

soul spells to get SP back = run out of mana...
Isolate a mechanoid, cast Weaken and Silence on it, and use Soul Reaper. It's weak and costs next to nothing to cast, and the MP that you do lose can be almost balanced out by the ET that you'll have up much of the time. If you want, you can even unload the Overcharge you'll build up on Focus or Spirit Stance. Not that this is a fun process or anything, though...
I'm surprised that you can't clear IWBTH arenas, especially with all the forging you've done. I'm guessing you really mean that you can't clear them at speed you want?

I think I use to get ~57mana from some of the schoolgirls + half price spells and you gain a little mana each cast or use a lower tier spell and gain a lot more.
While on the topic of shit drops, should I just drop everything except superior and up into the forge or do I need to actually learn all the different stats and whatnot because a fine power armour of something can be worth a few thousand credits?
