XD or equipment revamp, so many suffixes sound really useful and interesting, but have such low numbers they are useless. (Like vampire; sounds like a nice trade off, lifesteal but less damage than slaughter... but the HP recovered on a proc seems to be about .5% of my max HP when I see them. Better to just kill in one hit more often and take less damage. (Not that I've been seriously looking at them, seeing as how I am a mage and all...)

People donating enable tenb to buy new shiny servers yo you can play your game faster.
Let them have some advantages. They are already very little when you compare to some 'free' grinding games.

Still people who don't donate (much) can be successful. Juts look at our highest level player.

In all honesty, when I donated to this site, it wasn't due to me wanting an advantage in HV, it was simply because I was genuinely impressed by the structure of this site and how comprehensive the content was. It's kind of like a little something from me to ensure that the site can perpetuate into eternity.
Even if all benefits related to HV were removed, I wouldn't regret one bit that I had donated.

I can't claim to have donated with 0 attention to benefits but a huge reason is definitely what sushilicious said. Tenboro's work on this service/community is honestly pretty inspiring to me.

If GF gives less credits that just leaves Arenas as a good income source...
