Anyways hito seems to have an uncanny sense for what Tenb is thinking so I'd go with whatever he predicted for part 2.
If there were a hard cap for real, it would probably be 1000 since that's originally what the total upgrade amount was supposed to be.
Though, I can say for certain that any custom monster trophies will either be worth next to nothing in the bazaar or not be able to be sold at all. Why? Mob spawn rate won't be adjusted to compensate for trophy value, it's be the other way around. If the upgrades include making the custom mobs into true boss/legendary/god class, reducing the spawn frequency would have adverse effects on the rate of battles won, which would lead to an uproar from the owners.
Though, I think the final outcome will have customs upgraded to boss/legendary/god status, but still spawn as "normal" mobs at a reduced rate, with reduced HP compared to their fixed system counterparts, and have their own (almost worthless) trophies. Or, they could all possibly follow the hated 10% drop rate of the legendary marathon arenas and still retain a boss trophy type value, or less, and probably even lower loot quality than that.
I don't know what incentive could be provided to the owner to actually upgrade the trophy quality bonus though. It would have to be monetized for sure. Perhaps the monster owner gets some kind of reward every time one of their monster's trophies are redeemed.
