I use destruction.

usually on higher difficulty if i get resisted/dodged three times in a row i'll kill all her buddies so that she's the last one left. then at least the incoming damage is lower. try that next time?

I use a focus staff these days... since a full element type armor can still one shot some mobs. Destruction become too risky at BT for me. I almost failed T&T a few times it went down to if i could use magic missles and kill the trio off or not...

Training has no direct effect on ethereal drops (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Well, training increases your chance to get more items/better items, which pushes you further into the range of equipments capable of being ethereal.

Since the last patch, my default difficulty is hard (before that it was Nightmare/Hell), but I turn it up to IWBTH for the 12 arenas or so.

Probably just because I don't play enough, but you would still expect at least 1 ethereal from thousands of drops.

Let me make an educated guess. On hard mode, the majority of your drops will be crude/fair/average, with a lot of cotton/leather fines and a few superiors.

With that distribution of item drops, it's no wonder you don't get many ethereals. In addition to that, most of your drops will be for armor, not weapons, which are not eligible for the ethereal treatment.

Nope, its actually mostly average/fine/superior.

And the weird thing is that the vast majority of my weapon drops are fine or better quality, most of the bad drops are crude cottons, fair leathers, and average plate.

And when I say hard is my default difficulty, the only thing I actually play on hard now is IW cause its just really tedious and slow otherwise.

No, but there's not much point to losing them either, since they only drop on leather, cotton, and plate. And except for plate, nobody uses those either. So they don't really affect drops of the higher tier equipment and weapons.

Well I would rather have more drops with a most of them shitty than a few drops which always worths.
At least those shitty equips are (still) a good source of credits.
