It really fascinates me. I have already spent 200 hours on it.

It's good. Shame there's no z-levels though since having elevation would elevate (pun intended) the game. Maybe in a sequel.

same,
I got to Rimworld after playing Dwarf Fortress extensively, and found the game a bit flawed on small annoying things.
I enjoyed some runs but never felt motivated on a colony to go past 30~40 days.

So you've basically only experienced the early game. I think I have some 30-40+ year old colonies.

They're both great games. Just with a different focus. Also Rimworld is way more moddable with one of the most active mod communities out there, so any time I have some grievance with the game somebody's already fixed it. Which is nice. Even though I play very close to vanilla myself. It's one of those games where you might have 5 or 10 mods and still say you play vanilla.

yes, I think so, but that's also the limit where the initial stuff keeps me motivated.
I can't see an interesting goal beyond that, or the process feels too cumbersome to continue playing.

After what happened with Starbound this is an absolute red flag to me.
Don't read me wrong: mods are cool and the extra effort from the community is commendable!
It is my opinion that having modding implemented is enabling a lazy attitude from developers, that just goes "I don't know what works, just let people mod it to their liking" approach.

Nah, it's the opposite. The devs have gone through a ton of effort to make the game very accessible to modders. Things they wouldn't have had to do just to make the "sold package" work. It's a two-way relationship and a very healthy one.

It's not some Bethesda situation where they just shit out trash and hope someone else will fix it.

I enjoyed it until the expansion came out. They seem a bit pricey and don't seem to add to much content I would consider that valuable. Since then I haven't really played it.

Though the mods do make the game more of what you want. (Like putting in proper flooring will keep bugs from appearing and proper racks and shelves).

Def will return in the future, but that will be in a few years once there is a sale on the DLC to something more reasonable.

I own all the DLC and it's well worth the money.

The only way in which it's expensive is that they cost as much as the base game, but that's only because the base game is such great value. I usually return to playing with a new colony once a new expansion releases, and typically have gotten ~100 hours more from each, so compared to any other game it's not a bad deal at all. Of course if you compare it to ~400 hours in the vanilla game before the expansions, then obviously an expansion isn't as much new "content" for your $.

Also don't hold your breath for sales. Rimworld is traditionally very stingy with sales, and even the DLC sales are like 20% at most. For the base game that makes sense as it's pretty cheap to begin with, and I think they just continued the same policy with DLC.
