So I ran into this situation again last night: found a doujin that looked amazing, exactly my type…

…but it was raw. No English version.

I tried the usual tricks: copy text → Google Translate → broken sentences. Also tried screenshot OCR on my phone, but honestly it kills the mood when I’m “busy” and juggling apps instead of just reading.

Sometimes I just give up and enjoy the art, but I always wonder if I’m missing half the fun — the jokes, the dirty talk, the story twists.

Do you guys actually read raws seriously? Do you wait for scanlations, or do you use some kind of tools/scripts to make it easier?

Curious what everyone’s approach is, because I can’t be the only one struggling with this.

Kanji is at everywhere in my mother language; and after reading amouts of doujin I come to understand the hiragana words mostly without translation.

Only the foreign borrowed words made of katakana sometimes needed manual translation, switching apps likewise.

I'm pretty much the same

Well, more often than not, I can understand the story by looking at the pics, so yeah, I enjoy reading raws seriously (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Enjoy the pictures, I can't read much Japanese, much less Chinese... I can only make educated guesses on what's going on.
