Does anyone here play Monster Hunter Wilds?

It's the second monster Hunter game that I've played and I like it pretty well. But there's such a huge backlash against it online. The Monster Hunter community seems to hate this game, but I don't think it's bad enough to warrant that much hatred. I'm just curious to know if there are any long-time monster Hunter fans here who can explain why this game is so hated.

Fucking dog shit optimization. It's arguably the worst optimized modern game ever. 60fps on low quality with frame gen on a mid tier PC is fucking bullshit.
MH has never been known to have a good story, but to the level of Wilds? That's reaching unforgivable territory.
Extremely casualized gameplay with focus mode, you are now no longer punished for having shit positioning, which was the point of MH combat (outside the stupid ranged weapons). Story mode monsters were just sandbags, so they compensated by amping the monsters' numbers to 11 in post game hunts. A small bite from Tamamitsune hitting as hard as a chomp by Fatalis is fucking stupid.

My friend has over a thousand hours in the game but his profile displays only 900-ish h, arguably because the loading screen takes up so much fucking time.

World looks better, plays better, has more frame rate, costs a fraction of Wilds. Or if you want to chase the old vibe, go get MHGU.

Okay, this went a long way to helping me understand the vitriol. I play on console, so I haven't experienced any of the performance issues I'm learning have plagued the PC version.

I played a tiny bit of World, which was my first MH, and landed on the insect glaive as my main weapon. When I went to use that in Wilds, I found that the strat of targeting limbs for different extracts and buffs could be ignored in favor of a focus based move that just gives all the benefits at once. It made the weapon less interesting to me (ended up going greatsword).

I also miss the tracking and more involved travel. Now it's basically on rails most of the time with the seikret.

But, do you really feel like World is better looking? You mean stylistically or graphically?

I might be in the minority but its one of my favorites in the series! though it isnt the exact same as how it was before (rise had it but i still miss being in a hub with 3 other players and getting to know them over hunts!) i think gameplay wise it is a step in the right direction! Live service games have kind of been damaging i think to how wilds is being updated and perceived through its updates, with people who are used to live service games not used to starting from 0 (Destiny 2 comes to mind!) and with how games are expected to have content on a treadmill to keep player count up i think that at the end of base wilds' whole roadmap lifespan it will easily have a lot of fun content, but as it is it has taken a bit too long to add in some features but thankfully not as long as FFXIV!

I haven't dug deep into IG play on Wilds yet but I heard prepatched IG was pure shit and they had to patch some stuff in to calm the IG mains.

Yes, I truly believe World both looks and feels better. 2 main reasons:
- Biomes get worse and worse in Wilds. The expansive desert was okay-ish, but desert by its virtue of being a, well, desert usually feels a bit underwhelming compared to starting out in a forest like in World or Rise. The 2nd biome (scarlet forest) was okay. But oilwell basin and iceshard cliffs are really ass. Add in the fact that people travel by dog most of the time, and the combat is way too streamlined. And you end up with a huge ass map that only a few percent of people actually bother to explore.
- Most people can't run the game on medium/high quality without eating some hefty hit on the frame rate, so they will tone the quality down a lot to have a chance of hitting 60fps. Have you seen how shit the clouds look on performance DLSS? It's more pixelated than a Japanese girl's pussy in JAV.

Let's be real, no one gives a shit about how realistic water looks, but good lighting positions to give you a surreal scene, that's what will hook everyone. Just take a look at Elden Ring. I can't in good faith say ER has top texture or fidelity, but the overall visuals? It beats anything in the last 20 years. Wilds simulates a trillion sand particles in the wind and see how many people care about that? None, but they for sure do care about their GPU burning their PC while still struggling to pump out playable frames.

I went on this rant because I genuinely care about this franchise, but all I see is Crapcom jumping on money thanks to players with zero standards, and the franchise as a whole just gets worse as time goes on. Some people are smoking copium (I used to a few months ago but I have abandoned all hope) that the inevitable expansion will fix the issues, both performance and gameplay. It's TU3 soon, have they fixed shit? Newer reviews that complain they can no longer play the game each update seem to imply the answer is no.

That's why I don't play it, despite Monster Hunters being my favorite franchise (Played MHFU, MH3P & MH3U)

Oh yes, I forgot. Fucking denuvo. They will remove denuvo after a few years to slap enigma in. I'm on a strict no denuvo policy. Made an exception for Wilds to play with my friends but I guess that was a shit idea.

Dude that's exactly what I thought about Capcom. Since the release of Dragons Dogma 2 and Wilds, I'm done with Capcom and GU also is my favorite MH of the recent MH games. Guess I'm just gonna keep playing MHGU until Capcom fix itself one day.

It's ok. Feels much easier than World. My younger brother, who is a very casual gamer, managed to platinum it in a month without even trying.

Not feels, it is objectively easier before endgame, and there's nothing required for achievements in endgame, which has always been the case with MH franchise.
