Gentlemen,

I'm working on a longer image set at the moment, and in the past, I have simply cleaned up existing bubbles, and put the text into those.

However, in this case, I have the images with no text available. How acceptable is it in this kind of case to simply draw your own bubbles to fit the text? I'm coming into this as an outsider, so I genuinely have no idea.

Post links to the galleries or samples if you can. That way you can get specific advice on whether recreating the bubbles is feasible and how to do it.

Here's a quick and dirty comparison. I've attached two images. I only redrew one bubble, the top right.

This is me working in the constraints of the original bubbles.

And this is me adding the text, and drawing a new bubble under it.

This is a matter of taste, so the customer is always right. If you are doing this for your own satisfaction, you can choose to keep or move the bubbles freely. It is also not uncommon for editors to choose the option that requires the least work.

The bubbles in the samples appear to be opaque and flat colored, so reusing the original bubbles looks easy to do if you wish to preserve the original look.

At the same time, if you want to move art-blocking bubbles like the "Wait! Hold on…" bubble blocking the girl's hair, you can do so, since there is plenty of space to the right of it.

Another consideration would be whether the original bubbles are too narrow or weirdly shaped to fit the translated text in a reasonable and consistent font size and pleasing manner. The "Wa..." bubble is an example of this.

Thank you for the advice.

I'm doing these entirely for my own satisfaction, so I think I'll put in the work to draw new bubbles. My main complaint was the amount I was having to shrink the text. I just do care about making my very mediocre work the best it can be.
