I mean dang, I met an recent zoomer hire that could not type, did not understand microsoft office and whose only skill was scrolling on their smart phone.

I always assumed each new gen would continue to be more tech savvy. Eventually I would be like the old boomers that I had to train how to use a computer.

I mean to be fair this iteration of IPB does feel very duct-tapey the more you look into it.

I thought it was doing something funky to the profile sync so Tenboro disabled it temporarily a few years ago.

Then nobody complained so it went on the to fix much later list.

There are technical limitations and problems that IPB (Invision Power Board) will run into eventually that we'll need to do something to deal with, which might necessitate moving to something newer (although I hope not by too much; and if we were to try to move the existing forum from IPB to phpBB that sounds like a recipe for disaster. Although maybe not? I see some results about people doing such moves online).

Even modern phpBB's web frontend comparatively sucks compared to how phpBB used to be, but if this migration ever happens maybe that'd be how it ends up going. I don't know (I'm not in charge of anything at all here, for readily apparent reasons in addition to not really trusting myself with power if it were offered to me. And the only web forum I've ever run was based on ACMLM which I recommend to absolutely nobody).

Yeah that disappointed me when I found out. It was fun watching myself rise through the ranks.
Oh well, it's another minor thing. If we need to change that's fine, just don't make javascript mandatory and I'll probably live.

The first time you throw your back out and the first day you start zooming in to read the text. Both killed a little piece inside (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

I'm sure there is a script or browser setting but I've been to lazy to look into a solution besides zooming in.

I think that if we ever do move away from IPB it's probably gonna be a completely custom coded thing.

I get the impression that 10b is extremely fed up dealing with 3rd party forum software behind-the-scenes at this point. Not to mention (I think) he modified the IPB codes heavily enough that it probably makes more sense to just start from scratch, rather than trying to port in all these hacky customizations onto the new made-by-someone-else forum suite.

It would be a big development investment tho, which is probably why we are still using IPB lol.

This shit is way better than any social media garbage out there.. Concise categories for forums, easy to read posts, simple code to attach just about anything you'd want to a post, simple and effective UI, no corpo bloatware, spyware or adware, easy bot detection and removal, much better community vibes then these large open social media platforms where you meet everyone but get to know no one. I'd take an old bbs forum with a few circle jerking oldfag shitposters any day.
