Bubblegum Crisis. By far. Thought provoking.

Dirty Pair is also amusing. And Project A-Ko.

Lots of lesser known stuff too, Dragon's Heaven is interesting.

Barefoot Gen and the 80's Ghibli stuff are also fine choices.

I have several more recommendations if this gets extended to 1990's.

Nadia: Secret of Blue Water reminds me of Gunbuster instead (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

But it only received an Official English dub in 2022.

A man and woman of culture. The ova was a hoot. Definitely my favorite of the 80s so far.

Fist of the North Star

I'm not into shonen, and even I thought that the first 13 eps were amazing. Legitimately badass with over-the-top comedy value, cheesily cool music, and a so-bad-it's-good vibe. And it's refreshing for a change to have a good guy that's thoroughly good and bad guys that are comically evil.


I was going to add some recs, then I realized that everything else I thought was 80s was actually early/mid-90s. So I'll just steal yours~

Space Cobra seems fun - watched the first ep after seeing the random reference in Excel Saga (bless that show) - but I can only recommend the first ep so far since that's all I've seen.

Its definitely Saint Seiya for me

Saint Seiya, the OG dragon ball, Captain Tsubasa that i can remember.
Not sure if there are others from that time that i watched, i was just too young to watch most i guess, most of my favorites are from the 90s or so.
