i wish stuff like this would make a difference. but corps are gonna corp.
maybe im just a little cynical though.
This one actually
will make a difference. EU laws are well ahead of the US and very progressive in terms of protecting consumer rights. The reason that iPhones now use USB-C is because of the EU, they sued and won against Apple who were using a proprietary connecter format that was
inferior to the universal, openly available standardized types because they could then profit immensely off of the accessories that would otherwise be unnecessary. Forcing Apple to use USB-C in the European market did not force them to use it in the USA, but the costs and difficulties of having separate product lines convinced them to make the switch entirely.
This has also occurred with some gambling and pay-to-win type features that are predatory, which the EU is actively trying to restrict and remove as the practices are particularly targeted at children and meant to obscure how much you are actually spending versus what you actually get. Things like having to use a special currency, 'Gems' or whatever, and every item costs 300 gems, but you can only buy 'Gems' 500 at a time.
Stop Killing Games achieved its signature goal (unintentionally thanks to a hit piece
against the movement made by one supreme narcissist content creator whose entire life is a lie that recently came crashing down) so now they actually have to debate the issue and consider policy regarding it. There has already been major political support within the European Parliament as a result, one of the Vice Presidents endorsed it.
