While reading the rules thread, I noticed it was posted on July 2, 2005, and looking at the member list, the first user to register an account was MoogleMail on June 17, 2005, but I am still not clear about the exact date on which this site was founded (with the current domain)

Reading [en.wikipedia.org] the Wikipedia article, I see a big difference between this site founded by Tenboro and the first prototype of the .net domain created in 2001 by a guy who disappeared and a Yahoo group from 1999. They have no relation to each other, and the Wikipedia article is wrong for mixing them all up as one thing imo

TL;DR: I'm surprised no one mentions this site's 20th anniversary given that June is a month away, and I'm curious if there will be a special event or something :3c

The "launch date" is pretty fuzzy, but the only thing people care about today (Galleries) wasn't launched until March 20th 2007, so there's still time.

Reading through old threads and searching the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine I compiled this timeline with the dates that seemed most relevant to me, and I'd like you to tell me if my research is accurate:
  • July 1, 1999: A guy named Grahf creates the Yahoo.com group, initially called "Evangelion Hentai Group".
  • July 1, 2000: Some of the group's staff decide to create EvaHentai, the group's first website project ([web.archive.org] source)
  • July 1, 2001: On the anniversary of the group and EvaHentai, Grahf launches the first prototype of e-hentai.net ([web.archive.org] link)
  • December 2004 ~ May 2005: A very chaotic period. Apparently, various conflicts and indolence caused the .net domain site's staff to splinter, creating a site called Euphoric Visions ([web.archive.org] source), which included a forum ([web.archive.org] link), and is declared the successor to e-hentai.net ([web.archive.org] source). The e-hentai.org domain is used as an ad farm, it is unclear by whom, until the previous appropriation expired ([web.archive.org] source) and the current domain ownership is acquired on April 8, 2005. ([www.whatsmydns.net] source)
  • June 17, 2005: The alpha version of this forum is launched, as marked by the creation of the MoogleMail account, which according to the Member's Display Name History was originally called Staff.
  • July 1, 2005: Following the anniversary tradition, Tenboro announces the launch of this new forum.
  • March 20, 2007: As mentioned in the prev reply, the user galleries are launched.
  • April 7, 2008: Launch of the EHWiki (source)
  • April 16, 2009: First release of Hentaiverse (v. 0.1.1)
  • March ?, 2010: Launch of the alt domain AKA "sad panda". I'm not sure if this is something to celebrate tho'

TL;DR:
I think it would be helpful if the EHWiki included an article with the history of the site and a definitive timeline since, as I said at the beginning, what Wikipedia says seems unclear to me

Anyway, does that mean March 20, 2007 is the definitive date? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) or can we have the celebration for the launch of the galleries and two additional ones for the creation of this forum and the hentaiverse? (the three most important anniversaries imho)

The main reason the .net domain died was that Grahf disappeared for unknown reasons and didn't renew it. (Not to be confused with Grahf the former staffer on this site, who is a different person, allegedly.)

But yeah, the two remaining admins didn't get along, so the rest of the staff basically splintered between Euphoric Visions which eventually died, and this place.

I was surprised to see this obsession with launching each new site on the same day of the year. I still wonder if Euphoric Visions was also launched on July 1st lol (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

After reading so much lore, you're so cool that I wouldn't be surprised if your former senpai chose to become your kouhai

Anyway, I'm concerned that there's no official article about the history of this place. If there's no consensus to create one for EHWiki, I'll see if I can edit the Wikipedia one myself, since after so many years since its launch it seems unfair to me that this incredible place doesn't have the proper historical record it deserves

Wait, the "E" of E-Hentai was for Eva, not Electronic?

Now we just need to figure out what the N in nHentai stands for (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Btw, I just updated the main template for the article in Wikipedia

Tbh I would like to remove that shit, but I'm sure it will lead to an edit war with other users (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)
