Everything with Faputa and the Iruburu village lives rent free in my mind. Also best dad and Nanachi.

I like the concept. Big hole in the ground with cool stuff in it.

Characters completely aside, it's a nice mixture of mystery, wonder and brutality.

With every new locale or group encountered there's always the presence of danger. Is that bird going to suddenly morph into some messed up eldritch mosquito to dry and suck people's guts out? Are these other whistle owners going to try and murder the protagonist's group? What kind of grotesque consequences will travelling further down have with how each layer progressively (and lethally) messes you up?

And, naturally, what lies at the bottom / what happened to Riko's mom?

It does well at keeping one intrigued and kudos to it for not shying away from the weird and disgusting.

It pushes expectations and comfort which is always fun to watch how far it will go.

I fell in love with this anime after a friend recommended it.

What I love most about it is the extensive world-building, the amazing soundtrack, the way it just sucks you into the whole story, and that it's almost painfully cruel and hard, even though the main characters are children. There's a calmth to the show that lures you into a false sense of security.

And, of course, NANACHI <3
