One of my friends is a MaimaiDX player. She has recently hit a bottleneck and feels that MaimaiDX is not fun. She often feels inferior to other talented players who are improving quickly. I told her that talent can make you improve quickly, but it is not a necessary condition to become a music game master, but she thinks I am just comforting her and she still feels inferior. What do you think talent is for music games? How should I guide her? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Keeping in mind I don't really play Maimai but have played other similar genre games:

The general advice is:

1. Practice frequency. It depends how often you play the game per week or per month. The people that improve rapidly may be playing the game more often. Other people may have played older versions and have a lot more experience than it seems like.

2. It may be necessary to lower the difficultly and focus on the subtle technical elements such as timing, rhyme, efficiency of movement, and building motor memory.

3. People generally have a set of songs that are for fun / practice, might be easier but you focus on score and getting a higher rating (full combo + and all perfect) and those that are challenging that are more difficult that you can focus on clearing and improving.

4. In one of my local arcades there are a lot of MaimaiDX players, eg 12 machines with people queuing. It can be useful to watch other people for their technique and try to apply it and also talk to people about tricks and tips or advice.

5. Some people play the android clone of the game, so they can practice on a similar game, AstroDX.

6. Its good to play with a friend group but people say not to date people at maimai lol.

7. Hardcore players wear the right gloves to control friction and max their scores.

8. Learn the score mechanics, there are a bunch of technical score mechanics and understanding those can help you score better.
