I just got the notification a few days ago. Microsoft is that damn adamant in wanting people to upgrade despite the fact that 11 is bloated up the wazoo with spyware. They could at least given 10 at least a few more years before bowing out. The thing is not everyone can afford or use Linux. What to do?

QUOTE(sr331 @ Jul 7 2024, 14:14) upgrade, buy a new pc/laptop, or get left in the dust QUOTE(sr331 @ Jul 7 2024, 14:14) The thing is not everyone can afford or use Linux. It is literally $0 to use Linux. And it costs non-zero amounts of money to buy a new PC. You can "afford" to unless you can give a concrete reason why it's a non-starter. You just don't want to accept that you will have to re-learn some things and change the way you do things. If you say "i can't afford to spend the time" then have fun getting fucked by microsoft forever. Your choices are to stick with an unsupported OS, ditch microsoft, or continue watching your computing experience get worse (it's already worse than using wine imo). QUOTE(Necromusume @ Jul 7 2024, 21:38) Then let them run BSD. I do like OpenBSD a lot. This post has been edited by Moonlight Rambler: Jul 8 2024, 09:25

I could see an argument to be had with the implied cost of games not working on Linux. Now, Linux does seem to be continuously improving how it handles games, but there are probably some games that have a "cost" from losing the ability to play them, likely anything with a kernel-level anticheat, or something else that would require specific Wine settings to be able to run, where said settings could be changed at any moment.

That sounds worrying how you put that. Its good to add more flexibility with games on linux with wine, steam and such but it sounds like that would go against what Linux should be about. Its not for games really. I just hope making games more available for linux wont make it worse.

with things like winelib, companies that rely on kernel anticheat could make semi-native linux builds that were able to interface directly with the linux kernel, if such products are available for linux kernel anti-cheat. QUOTE Windows 10 goes bye-bye October 14, 2025, upgrade, buy a new pc/laptop, or get left in the dust Does that means I'm going to have to stop using Windows 7? By the way, loved the QUOTE The thing is not everyone can afford or use Linux part.

I thought it was obvious they meant, can afford [buying a new PC] or use linux. ESL, motherfsckers, do you speak it?
Apparently it's a thing to troll OpenBSD zealots by calling it Fish Linux.

I thought I did. QUOTE(Necromusume @ Jul 11 2024, 16:01) Apparently it's a thing to troll OpenBSD zealots by calling it Fish Linux. It's also a thing for OpenBSD people to use Comic Sans to annoy others. This post has been edited by Moonlight Rambler: Jul 11 2024, 23:31

Will give me the push I need to install a Win10 cracked virtual machine when it happens (woohoo, no more updates to be wary of). My computer isn't win11 compatible anyway, not having the required hardware spyware thing.

Plot twist, the PRC invades Taiwan before January 20, 2025, and the TSMC foundries are dynamited to keep the Red Chinese from seizing them. All Chinese and Taiwanese exports are shut off. So, you were waiting till October to build that new PC?

I find it obnoxious that it keeps asking for your consent to ram the dicks up your ass but makes it very difficult to opt out. You can opt out at any time ACCEPT Then there is no other button and you have to search online how to opt out.
