Long time player here.
While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time playing Genshin, I completely understand not wanting to play it. Its probably the greatest time sink that I currently participate in. If you decide to try it out, play it in whatever way is most enjoyable for you. Don't feel forced to participate in any mechanics that you don't particularly enjoy.
As for the gacha system, as a f2p it can be very rough early on. If you hyper-fixate on a certain goals you'll only be disappointed. You're given enough strong, free characters early on to get you through even the hardest end game content. Just enjoy the ride. The world is huge and there are hundreds of hours of content available. And its free!

Genshin Impact? Overall, it is a very good RPG game, both in terms of gameplay and quality. Unfortunately, card drawing is very annoying, and especially in China, the discussion environment for this game is quite bad.

Story is alright but ver slow paced as it is meant to last many years. Gatcha and the power scaling to make people do more pulls kinda sucks.

I feel like often a favourite character will come that if i don't have enough gems then im kinda forced to miss it this time around and when i do have max pity i feel like it was kinda wasted since i only have one version of them...

Find the fanbase & drama fun tho, it's a chinese gacha for your average waifu collecting otaku, but 40% of the fanbase is somehow the most current year opinionated westernized cattle.
