Might be in the enterprise editions? It got disabled again after it was enabled via hidden options in the insider version for a short period.

Servers have had that for a long time. Enterprise editions might have as well. But they are not for regular consumers. Like I (gamers) need some Windows Store or Xbox services which are absent in server or LTSC versions.

I'm a Windows 10 EOL skeptic. I'll worry about this when the actual deadline is about 8 weeks away before upgrading all my expiring OS's.

Nah be like the Chinese users who still run Windows XP. EOL is a state of mind.

I've already seen third parties starting up to offer third party patches as a service to address security threats so you can keep using Windows 10.

Anyone heard of 0patch before? Seems to be what is currently being advertised for Win10 EOL. $25 EURO per year of WIN10 EOL patching.

Just pay for the Extended Security Updates [learn.microsoft.com] https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/w...ecurity-updates

It's $30 (for home users) for one year and the price doubles every year. So at least the two next years are safe and not that expensive. Not sure about the third year. Maybe Windows 11 will be usable until then.

Extended Security Updates for organizations and businesses on Windows 10 can be purchased today through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Program, at $61 USD per device for Year One. For more information, see When to use Windows 10 Extended Security Updates. The price doubles every consecutive year, for a maximum of three years. ESU is available at no additional cost for Windows 10 virtual machines running in Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop. Additionally, Windows 10 endpoints connecting to Windows 365 Cloud PCs will be entitled to the ESU for up to three years, with an active Windows 365 subscription license. For more information about Windows 365, see What is Windows 365?.

For individuals or Windows 10 Home customers, Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 will be available for purchase at $30 for one year.

[arstechnica.com] Consumers won’t be offered all three years of extended Windows 10 security updates
QUOTE
The company confirmed to us that the second and third years of security updates would be exclusive to businesses and schools.

It's not my problem. M$ can hoopfrag with a cactuar and I'll be selling little round bandaids.

This is genuinely true.
Although XP is kind of bad now since web browsers no longer really work in it. The web just had to keep getting shittier.
That and TLS problems. 7 might still be somewhat usable.

I still ran XP today to play Fallout 2, though. On a Pentium M. So it still has uses. And if you download files for it on a different machine and then host them over a local HTTP server it's not too bad to get files onto it. Or you can use ancient versions of samba. Or Netware (lol). Or just ssh + scp (via cygwin or something).
(Mostly playing it on a 500MHz Pentium III Katmai desktop running 98SE with a Voodoo3, but was lying down playing it on the laptop today for a bit too.)

You'd be best ditching win10 though, and I don't mean in favour of win11.

unironically LMAOing @ u rn

Also you can install that garbage just fine on LTSC if for some reason you wanted to. The only difference is that LTSC doesn't come with it pre-installed.

Activating LTSC is easy. It's a matter of installing the ISO and activating it with a permanent public server key using PowerShell.
This simple line would work for any modern Windows OS.

I wonder why the upgrading of MS Windows has such friction, look at Ubuntu or macOS instead, very smooth theirs are.

^ This

I'm stuck on Windows because there are many apps that I can't stop using and they don't have alternatives in Linux (and it's not pleasant to emulate them with Wine either) like many of the PortableApps, NirSoft Tools and SyMenu

my newest windows install is XP

7 is a somewhat saner choice but the most sane choice is ditching windows
