I've been seeing a lot of concerns from a number of people, some in private and others in public, about the recently initiated purge of "real porn" from Galleries. I've already posted my thoughts about this here, which can be succinctly summed up as "today's situation is unsustainable". Mixed galleries of random people has already been banned, primarily for age verification reasons, but the recent movement aims to remove all real porn that would otherwise qualify as "Misc", but this is being heavily objected against by other people.

Due to this, I've decided to start a more formal feedback process about the situation

Essentially, I see two sustainable alternatives that are both more restrictive than status quo. You won't be restricted to these two in your response, but please indicate which of them you'd prefer.


Alternative 1

"Misc" real porn will be banned entirely. Any subjective or objective quality will be disregarded, and as long as it depicts real subjects, only those that fit within either of the two official categories will be allowed.


Alternative 2

"Misc" real porn will still be allowed, but the existing quality rules will be tightened up and enforced more vigorously. Mixed galleries will still be banned, and a new expunge category will be introduced for "Low-quality real porn" - unlike Garbage, this expunge category will qualify for the automated abuse ban for galleries posted after the change is made.

As quality is subjective, some guidelines will obviously need to be established to quantity a RP gallery. Furthermore, the expunge system will likely be augmented with the ability to vote against an expunge.


I'm also looking at implementing some changes to the Misc limit suggested by Shadow Weaver, that involves having to buy additional slots past a certain point.

You are only allowed to make a single post in this thread. Do not argue with other people or their opinions, just state your own views on the matter.

Again, this is not a majority decision. Obviously, if you're an active contributor or active in the Vigilante your voice will count for more than random lurkers, and I'll be weighing the responses to decide what changes to make.

I prefer Alternative 2. Its not perfect and I do have some reservations about it but given the choice its less restrictive than the former. I'm all for as much freedom in information as possible so I give my support for #2. Its obviously the lesser of two evils here.

I vote for Alternative 2. Because a complete ban seems unjustified.

The current effort just was the only feasible solution I saw with the current system in place.

Agreed.

EDIT: Although I am worried that this vote to reverse expunge thing might cause a shitstorm if not done correctly. Would it just reduce the percentage by their expunge power? Because that's really the only way I can see it working, even though it won't help that much in this case due to mostly lurkers with low power are trying to fight it and regulars with high power are going to consider the slight reduction in percentage negligible.

Alt 1 is clean and simple (in a nuclear option way).

Alt 2 has the potential to keep some valuable content but...how to define HQ? Eye of the beholder, I am afraid; occasionally I'll find a rp gallery that was expunged that I actually liked... anyway, all of this is made 100x more difficult due to deluge of crap.

I don't have a good solution; the only thing I can think of is to have all the real porn galleries not viewable to public (to discourage n00b spam), listed in a SOCOM form, reviewed and voted on by the community, and after a set amount of time, all galleries under certain vote score would be killed. Downside is that this solution would consume time away form other, more needed (?) vigi tasks...

On that note, what would help in reviewing misc would be if we could create official classes for 3d and non-h western (two big subsets in misc that I think have some redeeming value). This is not OT, as by reclassing them we would make it easier to see and review the rest of the misc category.

Both alternatives sound acceptable to me. Though, 1st one is simplest.

Alternative 2
If the fundamental quality review standards are handed down from on high. If the users have to build them from scratch, it will take forever to get the thing started and probably start splinter groups with their own ideas (vigilante vigilantes). They could be extended after debate, similarly to the expunge guidelines.

edit: "fundamental" meaning "standards will never drop below this, so users can act on them immediately" /edit

Please have the limit start at zero or one and make the longevity factor on the order or months rather than days. Also tying it to power / hath / donation would let people put things up more quickly.

You won't see any misc gallery, if you disable misc in the config page.
