Kids todays don't know how to use a computer. They don't even know what a file or a folder is. You're thinking of 30-somethings.
A buddy of mine works at a pretty standard IT company where he's tasked to "bring the new employees up to speed". He tells me the younger ones show him different scripts and shit to get feedback and when he asks basic questions like "why is this if-statement here? the most common asnwer is "I don't know, that's how it came out". Meaning ChatGPT wrote it and they don't know why or how it works. They couldn't fix it if it broke.
IT is going to experience a same type of "skilled professionals retiring" in a few decades that has been happening to trades since the early 2000s. It's already happening to some extent. All those computer wizards from the 80s who actually had to care about things like memory usage or optimization are retiring already.
