The way to make commute bearable if you use a car is...do your groceries during those trips and save time not going out on days off.

That did definitely help.

Yeah, if anything life isn't shit enough already. We need to make things worse for everyone because no one should ever have nice things or be happy.

Easier.

Just crash your car and die instead. Especially if your job doesn't pay mileage.

Oh shit I know this feeling, I crashed into a fashion shop because of that. No harms done to both side though, I was going pretty slow.
Later on I even got hit by a car and all my front teeth got shattered on the concrete, the car then proceeds to run away even though the road was busy af but no one cared enough to record or even help me. Luckily someone I know passed by and called the hospital. Now I have fake front teeth and every few years I gotta go fill it up again else it'd turn black/grayish. And the accident even happened near a police booth, what fucking incompetence.

QUOTE(EsotericSatire @ Apr 16 2024, 15:04) *

40 hours is not bad, especially if you have decent coworkers.
100+ is brutal especially if on a salary.

A 40-hour workweek is horrid. Because it's not really 40 hours. When you factor in all the time for travel and preparation etc. you suddenly barely have any time left for yourself. Which I suppose would be fine if you have some personal interest in your work, like if you're an entrepeneur on a field you're actually drawn to. But very few of us are that lucky.
Sure, 100 is worse. And 101 would be even worse than that. But 40 is awful enough on its own.

College can be annoying, but at least it's easy and no one cares if you miss a day or two when you don't feel like it. And there is always help available if you just ask for it.

QUOTE(Msgr. Radixius @ Apr 19 2024, 17:24) *

"I don't like to work and I don't have any money, MUST BE CAPITALISM'S FAULT."

I mean, work does fucking suck. That's why they pay you for it. If it were enjoyable, you would not need to be compensated for it. In general you don't usually get paid for doing stuff you'd happily do for free.

Admitting that work is awful does not make you a communist or "entitled". People are allowed to acknowledge they hate their job or work as a whole. Nothing odd or wrong with that. Entitlement would be to think that work sucking means you shouldn't have to do it. Which I do think. Because I am entitled. Luckily my parents have money that I will eventually inherit.

Only women and the entitled are granted the privilege of expecting to work less than 30 hours and then complain of pay gaps.

If looking at the unemployed and underemployed many turn to drink and other vices. There is a psychological need within our algorithms to do work that we and other appreciate.

There is something wrong with that though. One part is an individuals own perspective to the value of themselves and work. The second if they truly hate doing the work then what are they doing to better themselves and opportunities to do work in different industries. Its also often an issue of weighing the opportunity costs of wanting different things and deciding what you truly want and which 'poisons' you are willing to tolerate.

I have seen far too many people with money destroy themselves. Seems to be entirely those do not have the work / family / community ethic and/or those that seek to maintain an unsustainable lifestyle and take on too much debt or too much risk or both. The other path I have seen is people that do not work end up being consumed by alcohol / drugs / gambling then lose everything.

So even if you have money, be careful.

There is a psychological need to do something productive or sensible. I agree with that. To insist that "something" needs to be work sounds like a severe case of fluoride poisoning.
I mean work as in employment, an occupation. If you define work as in "expending energy" then yeah.

I'd rather not drink poison. But most of us have to drink poison to pay the bills. That's just how it is. Doesn't mean you have to act like you like drinking poison.

I'm never going to have that much money. Just enough to not end up homeless unless I develop a cocaine or heroine addiction. Which I doubt is going to happen.

Why does all work need to be negative? If you find work that matches your values or desired level achievement, or contribution to society etc then its not entirely negative. Also helps if you are working with people that you like and or can tolerate.

I did not mean literal poison but more along the line of lifting a metaphorical weight and contributing to family/ community / self-esteem.

FWIW, in literally all of the college curriculums I have dealt with, internally we never gave two shit about those student evaluation reports.

Admittedly I only worked in the research-oriented institutes, but from what I have heard, even with the "teaching-focused" ones, most lecturers suffer 0 consequence from their shit teachings, as long as nothing extreme happens (e.g., touching students' boobs, plagiarism, etc).

A lot of us are "too busy" grinding for research glory points (just so we can keep our jobs), than dealing with some undergraduates who make very minimal impact to our careers.

I knew a guy with a masters degree in mathmatics, and he wanted to go back to college so he can teach in highschools. Problem is that he was an assistant at some college and he would fuck the students there, and im pretty sure he dated a minor in his 30s so

I didn't say all work is negative. I disagreed on the notion that everyone needs work on some psychological level. An individual may enjoy work, that's not the same as it being necessary.

If you really care about animals or something, then win the lottery so you don't have to worry about bills and instead spend all your time caring for stray kittens, you're not going to suddenly have a moment of "god I really miss having a boss and a salary". At least, not as some basic human need that is inevitable.

Hated going to college too.
Online classes during covid were the best thing that could ever happen to me, listening to lectures at double the speed, doing stuff on my own, waking up hitting record & going back to bed was the best.

That's an example of being a self employed animal rescue worker. v

Having a good boss / manager is a huge benefit, so many terrible people make it to higher level roles and make lives worse for loads of people. You don't have to have a boss and a fixed salary and be an office worker for work/employment.

For males meeting the need for achievement/recognition/contribution if it is not there, they are finding weird ass epigenetic effects. Some of the things they are finding regarding gene expression is tropo, so maybe future research will make it clearer. Some of it sounds like bs, eg sounds like fake BS or BS if its real. In women they have menopause which functionally extends their life theorized to be based on social need over millions of generations. Men seem to have the opposite mechanics. Its like planned obsolesce at the genetic level.

College vs Cubicles

I think college is better, Cubicles kind of drain your soul but also might be better than open office.

Some cubicle designs are better than others though. I think the main problem with open office is that noise travels so far, so you need noise cancelling headphones.
