Twice a year has been nice for my playstyle, but the current longer season has led to some unexpected positive results as well.

Hum. I’m voting for twice a year, if that’s easy enough to maintain.

2-3/year is good I think.
one/year is too long of a wait for new season. I mean, I don't know about other people, but I didn't play as active as usual after floor 50 and just wait for new season.
I guess more than 3 would be both tedious and repetitive unless there's a clear different gimmick between season.
