I'm of the same opinion but I think the cause of this is probably from the fact that controversial ending is something shounen absolutely must not have in modern times due to fear of manga getting the blame from real life incidents. I mean, just look at all the manga that tackled some controversies like Death Note, Platinum End, or even Naruto. They all just ended on the most boring good guy wins note even though anyone can see how things would have been more interesting if the villains of the series won and how the world after would be transformed.
