QUOTE(bladejtr @ May 18 2010, 11:12) I think it's intentional, that way if you're actually there paying attention it's not so bad of a penalty, but if you leave it overnight you're screwed. Is there a message in HV when it happens? I don't think people watch their Credits log when playing.

He wasn't watching his HV window either, so what's the point?

The point is, people who do play like machines, and are falsely detected by the script to be botting should be able to notice immediately after the penalty is applied (and probably, there should be warnings in HV window before its applied). I don't believe in perfect bot detectors.

Well this is the first I've seen of this happening to anyone, and he admittedly was cheating. While I haven't seen it myself, obviously, I doubt Tenb wouldn't put some sort of warning and notification system in since I've seen numerous other punitive systems he's implemented that do warn and notify you.

Nono, that's not the way it works. The botting device he used is a greasemonkey script, which is detected by the site since Tenboro knew of it. Rob told him of this thing and a 'trap' was installed that would put the prefix [Cheater] to the name of the user. It seems like this is not the only punishment, though. -220.000C makes sure he won't play again in a way that can only be seen as cynical, given the fact that one can - with extremely time-consuming farming - still manage to be able to play normally again. Hence the phrase 'giving someone a Tenboronian dollar', when someone transfers a huge amount of debts to another. Not really, but eh.

When you play too may hours/rounds of Fest, each time you start a new Fest appears a message where you have to put a code in order to enter it, don't know if this also happens in the middle of Fest.

It drops you to an error screen of sorts (it doesn't bite), so there's no way to accidentally trigger it more than once unless you have something automated issuing posts to the server. Besides, it doesn't have any false positives that I've heard of yet.

@bladejtr: I don't think so - the penalty is for NOT paying attention, so it should be safe to assume one won't suddenly start one second later. All 22 penalties were applied in the same minute. I'm not trying to justify myself, just giving my thoughts.
@HybridGuardian: I don't follow. What do you mean by "cheated the 200,000 C number to 8K"? I wrote "~ 8k" and "about -212,290". So, my guess was about 90c off mark [edit] 290 off mark. Lost a digit there.
@Dlaglacz: Actially, I *was* watching the HV window, as much as I did when playing with keyboard shortcuts. The script only clicked on monsters for me, it wasn't full auto. Not that it matters...

I seem to have mixed things up a little, but I thought in your post was written 200,000 C the first time I saw it... Sorry for that! I am getting old I presume. This post has been edited by HybridGuardian: May 18 2010, 14:06

I"m all pro punishing cheating and botting (which is cheating) but that's a very harsh amount. I wouldn't be able to make that amount up. If they gave me a negative 10,000 that'd be absurd enough but manageable with a lot of time and effort to really enforce not breaking the rules... But over 200K? That's not manageable by my level. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Goodluck with that. Might want to consider sending a message to the person in charge of this, and make your case and hope for mercy.

Wait... I only tried out an auto-healing script that I wrote to prevent myself from carelessly losing arena battles. I thought it was fine b/c there's not much automation, but the script immediately caught me. I pressed back, forgot to turn off the script and it caught me again. My name still has [cheater] next to it. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

I'm sure gillian would say the same thing. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Tenboro caught gillian by hand... meaning his cheating was severe enough for tenboro to notice something. I got caught by a script... meaning it was the first time I had used a greasemonkey script. If I was using one before, I would have been caught long time ago. QUOTE lol cheaters
There were numerous complaints about dying in arenas at the time. It's a good thing I tested out the script before I posted it on the forums. This post has been edited by [Cheater] Hunter the 3rd: May 19 2010, 02:02

(IMG:[ i158.photobucket.com] http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t101/bladejtr/cheaters.png) Also, pay attention to what's happening instead or just rapid clicking and you don't need auto-heal scripts. Or make the script tell you what to do in big obvious letters, instead of doing it for you. Any script that does something for you is cheating, if you don't click it, or push the button on your keyboard yourself, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah... I realized that afterwards. I think I'm the only [cheater] besides kamuiseph who was caught later that broke level 10. This post has been edited by [Cheater] Hunter the 3rd: May 19 2010, 02:15

Well, redemption! A slap on the wrists, all my creds, and I'm out on probation. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. My first JavaScript creation will become a code donor to a new one that doesn't violate any rules. After I test the two i just learned of - Battle Buddy and STAT. Wow. If I count the equipment, items and doggybagging, I prolly had < 40kc. But then, i never go above "normal" difficulty in grindfests. Does that have any impact? QUOTE(bladejtr @ May 19 2010, 02:09) make the script tell you what to do in big obvious letters, instead of doing it for you. I will do exactly that. Color-code the monsters, replace "Mon A" with "Mon 1" (as the keyboard shortcut).
