bring back pages, this update is straight up terrible

First time posting just because of the page removal.

I understand its done for backend optimzation and to keep the site feasable to run.
But i dont believe for a second that its impossible to make some kind of page system
to keep track of where you are and have been in the current search.
Even if you cant see how many pages there are in total something like that would be better than nothing.
Especially for favorites. Or just being able to index all your favorites and get a page number.
Make it a donation perk to be able to index higher number of favorites or whatever.

Because right now I feel like im lost wandering around not knowing where i am or how far its left.
The pages is a crucial part of being able to reference where you are. Not having anything is a UI failure.
And so is having to write in the address bar to navigate a website.

I have added a pull request to show the years in the GID bar, as some users seems to want to browse specific year, it will help them get there in one click (which wasn't possible with pages lol)

Too bad the GID is not always in order of the published date, I hope they will be able to fix that later as they talked about it in the first post.

I tried to load it, but I just get 1 solid green bar with only a 0 at the top of the bar. I cant jump to any pages, it's just stuck on it

Make sure to visit the front page so the script can get the current max GID
It won't work for favorites sorted by favorited time, can't do anything about that as it's not GID sorted.

What browser are you using ? I have tested Firefox and Chrome with Tampermonkey and it's working fine.
Do you get errors in the browser's console ? (F12 then console tab to check it)

Toss another one on the "user thinks you solved the site resource problem by ruining the browsing experience" pile. Can't wait to get dismissed as just another one of the loudly dissenting minority, despite the fact that the overwhelming reaction to these changes appears to have been negative.

An entirely untouched subject, I enjoyed being able to browse low tag and expunged results with the regular search results in the prior settings. I understand the desire to create an option for browsing those exclusively, but replacing them altogether seems somewhat needless.

This is the kind of update that adds things people didn't ask for, removes good features and overall leaves users dumbfounded.
Not sure what technical problems this has allegedly solved on you guys' end but it's shit for the users. New Coke-tier of "update". Seriously, roll back to a previous version.

Never made a post to the forms before, in all of the 6 years ive had this account. But Id figure id voice that this new update is totally garbage, what was the point of the update? Was it a cost issue?

Perhaps you don't understand the concept of browsing. Say i want to see what there is in the image set world. Not going to be able to look at 1.2M galleries in one sitting. Maybe I want to start with what's about halfway through. Remember, I'm browsing, not looking for anything in particular. So I'd start with page 1500. Peruse maybe 20 pages looking at what ever caught my eye. Then I'd start tomorrow on page 1520. And the next day 1540. Do you not get this concept?

Changing systems for optimization reasons is all well and good, but why there is 0 communication before-hand, or a total lack of proper explanation on the front page on how to use this new system is a mystery to me. But then again, "Just guess a random combination of numbers" and "just bookmark the page you want to come back to" seems to be the best explanation I've read so far.
Admin could be a bit more sympathetic towards the average user here. Or maybe use the site a bit more himself.

Love how this always happens, some admin decides behind closed doors to change their site, no heads up, no advanced warning, not even a trial run to see how the users like it before implementing it, no, just blind side them and force them to completely relearn the site cuz someone got bored of a tried and tested old interface.

Last announcement for site features we got was something about an expunge function back in april, had 6 months to say "hey we'll be changing how the site operates this year", and give people a chance to prepare for change, instead you launch it in the middle of the night when most people are asleep so you can delay the immediate backlash.

Your userbase are horny cumbrains, this is a porn site, keep it simple, what layman knows what a GID is? EVERYONE knows what a page is and how to go about using them.

I very much share this sentiment.
For all the good this update might do behind the scenes, it's a net negative on the user side. Please consider the things everyone here has said and find a compromise between optimization and user-friendliness.

I rly don't like the change about removing the pages. Some sort of sorting by date or upload time for me with the option to jump to any place in archive is important.
Terrible update

I do like the update in a way, but I have to agree that page numbers are incredibly important. They give you a sense of direction, they allow you to do certain incremental skips. They also give you a sense of time, as everything is sorted by upload date. Skipping to the halfway point, for example, makes you expect to move several years back, but not all the way . Going through galleries now is simply not as interesting. I feel lost in the sea, with no specific point in sight. I would genuinely appreciate the old page counter back, even if there is some trickery to it for technical reasons.

Browsing without pages is just disorienting and unsatisfying. I know his update was meant well, I truly appreciate it, but the experience has been severely shrunk down.

Hi! Also a first time poster wanting to throw out an ask for some kind of revert or way to opt into pages again. The old system really made browsing a lot easier for me, not just in general but also for when I want to go through old favorite marked galleries, which over the years have grown in number to the point where the new system makes it very cumbersome to go through.

I'm only chiming in here to tell anyone and everyone who cares: start archiving your shit.
Stop trusting the administrators, stop trusting the mods. They're in it for the grift.

I regret ever donating even once to this site. Maybe it would've been for the best if it died already, and we'd lost everything. But we have to look at this like another opportunity, and as a last warning: if we don't archive our stuff, we'll definitely lose it for good next time.

Is it not possible to keep pages for favorites? I'd hope we'd only be dealing with a few thousand results at most in that case. Once you hit >10 pages worth of favorites it becomes a nightmare to traverse.

It would be better if the site died a quick death because it would open up the playing field for something new to take the crown. As long as this dumpster fire is limping along, it'll remain king. Unless we reach critical mass of fuckups, and seeing how Tenboro has gone senile, that might happen sooner than I thought!

The reality of the situation is you run a porn site and a scan site in one, suck it up and take the hosting costs on the chin, or move over and let someone else take over. Don't roll out this assfucking of an update to save yourself some loose pennies.
