Does anyone know when GID changed to be strictly chronological? I've been trying the URL editing navigation and I have hung up on ancient galleries a couple times now so I think that either I am very unlucky or there are actually a considerable number of old galleries with non-chronological and often quite high GID numbers.

if the old GID is updated it will refer to the new higher GID. in that case just change the GID plus or minus 1 and hope it doesn't refer to new GID . Haha. that hmm a feature to add , maybe.

I'm disappointed how so many people instantly turn incredibly toxic and can't separate disappointment at a UX downgrade from personal attacks. It's really not helpful.

At the same time though I'll chip in a few cents that yes, this really does stink and no, I don't see how this is required anymore than Danbooru or the like. Ie, I do a quick search right now and it says "23000" results. That's not a big number to have as a list even with old hardware, and if I have it set to 100 results per page than that's 230 pages and jumping through the list is feasible.

To the question of "would you rather have 1000" instead (despite that not at all being the case before but whatever): if it comes down to it the yes, I would rather have that as an option in settings. Pagination is that important. If pagination means for now you just can't show many results anymore, well better than nothing.

Still thank you for trying to improve things even of this one whiffed a bit. I hope you don't take a lot of this to heart beyond that many people like the site. Though admittedly that could be a tall order because some of these comments are just, yeesh (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif).

I used a script that would highlight things I have already seen so i easily knew where new stuff started and when the same gallery I see often got an update, this update to the ui killed 10k+ entries. from what bits I read, people are understandably frustrated and getting responses that just make them more so frustrated so they vent.

This is extremely clunky. It's frankly baffling that anyone would expect users to go through this process to do some basic searching. The solution is pagination.

Ah, i don't know about that. that is before tenboro helped maintain all the custom make server. what time? im guessing bewteen GID 1 & somewhere 1000 maybe.

I don't have any exact numbers, and I don't think it's quite on the level of completely breaking older searches, but apparently the old upload system had some quirks where it would occasionally assign a GID to an upload before the upload finished processing/posting, which would lead to a mismatch between the gallery's stated upload date, and the "timing" of the GID, which has suddenly become a problem now that all searching is based on GID.

The problem with GIDs is that they are not countable. No one is going to memorize or count to numbers in the millions. No one is going to cross-reference GIDs with dates in history. Asking people to search via this method is some ass-backwards disingenuous shit. Even the fabled "skip to GID" button that people have suggested in this thread would not be an acceptable solution. I shouldn't have to invent a 7-digit number, put it in the URL bar (or button), see where I end up and tweak the number if I don't like the results. Pages are a much better approximation and with fewer keystrokes to boot.

You'd genuinely have to not be a user of this site to conclude that GIDs are an acceptable method of searching. A robot maybe? Idk.

What on earth kind of response is this? Are users expected to write the site's code for the owners in order for it to keep seriously basic functionality?

It's also more efficient for the backend if users no longer wish to use the site due to the UI being so broken.

i admit that it is different than the page system. not mouse (human interface) friendly.

however there are multiple feature enable because of the GID system.

No one will give a FUCK about those features without a user-friendly interface.

Used to use the page selection to jump a certain number of pages in my watched galleries section it made it easy to navigate and see the galleries that have been updated since I last checked as they were often 7 pages from the newest update. Is there anyway to bring it back for the watched feature at least?

It's objectively a garbage system for searching. That's the only admission here.
What "features" exactly? That the page never changes once you're on it? Big whoop. I'd rather get to my search results quickly and efficiently.

You can stop shilling anytime.

obviously there was no thought about the users while applying this update, and calling all the critics "a brigade" and dismissing is just childlish

Can you imagine that happen? HAHA. user leaving the site. seriously The Old search engine is running out of RAM frequently. that are a old saying 'ether change the Software , or put a lot of money in hardware'

While my use case of the site isn't impacted significantly by this change, I am ultimately still disappointed by the need for a third-party script to restore GUI usability in navigating search results. I hope something is officially added to add such functionality in a manner suitable for less skilled users.

There are examples in this very thread about people wanting to cease using EH because of this change. Nevermind this false dichotomy between hardware resources and keeping pagination of all things. That this would even be considered a trade-off at all, let alone one that should be made, is mind-boggling.

The search/navigation was the best feature of this site. :/ Beats out nhentai and such. I get how to ump around now, it's just gonna be guessing in the URL to go back through the whole gallery. It's ust really clunky and messy to put that aspect of navigating into the URL like that. And it's also unintuitive that the number is in reverse now. Higher number = more recent, but we're so used to higher page number being back at the end. :/

Only want to say that I'm too not happy with this update. I can understand the technical aspect but I think the usability have be totally forgotten.
